Let's Eat Military Rations! (ミリメシを食べよう! Mirimeshi o tabeyou!?) is the second episode of Hetalia: The World Twinkle, and the one hundred and twenty second overall in the anime series Hetalia. It was released early to paying subscribers of the Docomo Anime Store on June 27, 2015, and was broadcast on July 10, 2015. It adapts the majority of the Let's Eat Military Rations! chapter from Hetalia: Axis Powers Volume 5, as well as the first strip from the Hetalia à la Carte 1 chapter from Hetalia: Axis Powers Volume 6.

Plot Summary

Germany, Italy, and Japan all sit on a hillside and eat their military rations. After Germany asks Japan about what he is eating, Italy reveals that they are both eating beef. Germany and Japan express their surprise that Italy isn't eating pasta, but conclude that whatever he's eating must be delicious. However, Italy reveals it tastes of the chemicals used to manufacture it, and that Italian canned military rations are deathly bad. Germany offers Italy some chocolate and Japan offers him some canned mackerel, and Italy expresses that it's delicious. Japan offers him some Yamatoni beef too, and Italy gratefully accepts. While eating, he says that there was a time when thinking "food tastes good" was a religious sin, and that it was a living hell. Japan is incensed at this notion, declaring that delicious things are wonderful, and Italy agrees. Japan and Italy are shown on a monitor in hell where denizens are watching and reminiscing about what it was like back then, and that so many people went to hell that they were always busy.

In the next scene, Japan presents Germany with biscuits that he made using the latter's recipe, tweaked for use in military rations, calling it hardtack. Japan isn't sure if Germany will like it, but Italy interrupts him saying that he wishes he could've Germany teaching Japan how to cook. Italy says he'll have some too, but Japan warns them that they might taste a little plain. Germany says that food on the battlefield is like that, so Italy pulls out some Vegemite that Australia had dropped. As Italy is about to eat some Germany yells and tells him not to, and that it would be too much of a shock for him. England, dressed in a dark suit and sunglasses, peers around the corner and watches as they try the hardtack. Italy and Germany express their approval of it, while Japan shows interest in the tube of Vegemite. England takes his glasses off and unhappily notes that they look peaceful and happy.

The Narrator explains that during the war, since they had to carry food around for a long time, both the Axis Powers and Allied Forces put a lot of effort into developing food whose quality wouldn't change in harsh environments. In a sequence of transitions, Germany wonders how to include potatoes in military rations, while Japan produces Konpeito candy, Canned Salmon, and hardtack, and Italy decides that he should probably go with canned food. Meanwhile, England and America have tried a variety of foods that were left alone but everything has failed. The only one they haven't tested is "the fruitcake left in Mr. Taylor's storage for more than one hundred years." England is horrified, insinuating that he saved the worst for last. However, when they try it, its actually edible and tastes good. An infographic shows current field rations in Germany, Italy, and Japan.

America declares that their field rations are great, and while he eats some of them England expresses concern that he's eating too much. America says he's eating the normal amount, while England insists the amount of different foods he has isn't normal. England begins eating his more modest meal off to the side, and mumbles that he's getting sick of eating biscuits and oatmeal every day. America asks if England wants some of his rations, and when England asks if that's okay America insists that it's fine. However, when England grabs the package, America asks what England is going to do for him in return. England says that he's changed his mind, but America points out that he's not letting go of the package. Off to the side, Italy explains to the audience that America won't do much for someone unless he gets something in return. Another infographic shows current field rations in England, America, and the Nordic region.

In the next scene, America explains that there are a lot of German soldiers nearby so they have to be careful. However, England is elegantly sitting down and drinking tea, which alarms America. England explains that it is a "gentlemen's habit" to sit and drink tea daily at a set time, and tells America he should join him. America says he drinks coffee, not tea. As England explains how drinking tea always makes him feel gentlemanly and calm, Germany appears behind him carrying a gun and points it at his head. As they are surrounded, America remarks that he admires how much England loves tea. Off to the side, Italy explains to the audience that while they were enjoying their tea time, the British military were surrounded before they even noticed.
