Track.0 - HETALIA OF THE DEAD (ヘタリア オブ ザ デッド Hetaria Obu za Deddo?)
France and America watch an American horror film, and France complains that the protagonists in America's horror films are always too strong. As more nations arrive with some of their horror films in tow, America reveals that he thought it would be fun to compare them. Italian horror movies are generally full of girls... and guts and entrails. China tries to play his movie, but it is a VCD and doesn't work in the machine, and his films are described as having a touch of comedy in them. Japanese horror films are described as dark and terrifying, but Japan admits that his monsters are dainty. Finland brings a film involving naked Santas, and England stops Spain from playing his film. England plays a movie he borrowed from India, which degenerates into a Bollywood dance sequence. Canada's films pay lots of attention to the science and setting only to throw it all away later, and England blames his tendency to kill off the protagonist on Germany, whose films tend to not be scary. They watch a particularly frightening movie before Russia admits that he put in a home movie by mistake. In the end they watch an American film, realizing in the end that everyone's films are weird.
This chapter was later adapted in the episodes "Hetalia of the Dead - First Part" and "Hetalia of the Dead - Second Part" of the anime series.
Track.1 - African War Front! Part 1 (アフリカ戦線!その1 Afurika sensen! Sono 1?, trans. "African Battlefront! Part 1" in the Tokyopop edition.)
A series of strips detailing some of Italy's relationship with Germany and England during World War II. Germany ponders the difficulties in being Italy's ally as he watches one of Italy's L3 tankettes break down. He finds himself acting as a babysitter of sorts, and fruitlessly attempts to consult a book written by his ancestors for advice. In Africa, England is gaining ground against Italy, and chases him when he appears at his camp dressed in an Elephant costume, but England is unable to match his speed. After getting away, Italy calls Germany, who shows up only to collapse from the heat due to his thick uniform.
This chapter is a reprinted version of "Episode 1: The Serialization Finally Begins!" from the November 2011 edition of Comic Birz. It was later adapted in the episode "African War Front! Part 1" of the anime series.
Track.2 - African War Front! Part 2 (アフリカ戦線!その2 Afurika sensen! Sono 2?, trans. "African Battlefront! Part 2" in the Tokyopop edition.)
England begins to calmly revels in his triumph over Italy before he is interrupted by the arrival of America. They immediately begin arguing over approach in strategy, leading to a soldier to remark how they don't look very much like siblings. After England's resulting outburst, America decides to go and greet everyone, and apparently become despondent when he receives a cold reception. England initially finds this funny, but then tries to comfort America, only to discover that he is fine and roasting a marshmallow. As America's antics increase, England becomes more stressed out and eventually wakes up, believing the preceding events to be a dream right before America calls for him.
This chapter is a reprinted version of "Episode 2: Serialization! Part 2!" from the December 2011 edition of Comic Birz. It was later adapted in the episode "African War Front! Part 2" of the anime series.
Track.3 - It's the First Anniversary! The Tripartite Pact (一周年だよ!三国同盟 Isshuunen dayo! Sangoku doumei?, trans. "It's The First Anniversary of the Tripartite Pact!" in the Tokyopop edition.)
Germany and Italy go to Japan's house for a meeting, and Germany repeatedly tells Italy to calm down after the later becomes very excited. Japan greets them, and launches into a long, formal acknowledgement of the one year anniversary of the Tripartite Pact, and Italy tells him to talk to them like friends. After a short story where Italy talks about his impression of Japan, the two of them end up at a hot spring, where they talk about the significance of it in both of their cultures. Italy talks about his Samurai spirit, and ends up putting on a Samurai style ammunition vest used by the Italian army, confusing Germany when he arrives. Later, as they toast to their continued alliance, Italy remarks on how young Japan looks.
This chapter is a reprinted version of "Episode 3: The Axis Assembles!!" from the January 2012 edition of Comic Birz. It was later adapted in the episode "It’s the First Anniversary! The Tripartite Pact" of the anime series.
Track.4 - Let's Eat Military Rations! (ミリメシを食べよう! Mirimeshi o tabeyou!?)
The Axis Powers sit together and eat military rations. Germany asks Japan about his food, which the later states is actually very good. Italy remarks that he has something similar, but laments that it tastes bad. Later, Japan offers Germany some biscuits that he made based on what Germany taught him. Italy asks to try some, and when Japan admits that it may taste rather plan, Italy decides to add some Vegemite that Australia left behind. Germany is alarmed at first but the trio end up enjoying it. As Food on the battlefield was problematic for both the Axis and the Allies, America and England sample parties to try and figure out what would be ideal. After a series of failures, America proposes they try a one hundred year old Fruit cake, which ends up tasting surprisingly good. On the Battlefield, America eats a large portion of rations while England eats a modest amount, leading to an argument. Later, while England enjoyed his tea time he was surrounded by the British Army.
This chapter is largely a reprinted version of "Episode 4: Captain! I can't fight with an empty stomach!" from the February 2012 edition of Comic Birz. It was later adapted in the episode "Let's Eat Military Rations!" of the anime series.
Track.5 - Liberté, égalité, fraternité and... (自由・平等・博愛・そして… Jiyū byōdō hakuai soshite…?, trans. "Freedom, Equality, Brotherhood, and..." in the Tokyopop edition.)
France addresses the reader, explaining that they must have been exhausted waiting for him to show up and begins to praise himself while simultaneously insulting England. England jumps in frame and kicks him, telling him not to insult him in his own house. Elsewhere, after being defeated by Germany once more, France vows to beat him next time. Sometime after, he is informed that Germany is getting closer to their border. Panicking, France proposes peace and establishes the Maginot Line, though it doesn't extend through a nearby forest, giving Germany a way through. At a meeting of the Allies, France interrupts England to announce that he's defeated Italy before declaring the end of his working hours and falling asleep. France and England continue to fight in the meeting, and America offers to moderate between them and choose whose opinion is correct.
This chapter is a reprinted version of "Episode 5: Sorry for the wait! The continuation!!" from the April 2012 edition of Comic Birz. It was later adapted in the episode "Liberté, égalité, fraternité and..." of the anime series.
Track.6 - Which Country is That? (あの国はどんな国? Ano kuni wa don'na kuni??, trans. "What is That Country Like?" in the Tokyopop edition.)
Each country is shown dressed in a way that is stereotypical to the international community, and while nations like Italy and France in particular have very glamorous images, Japan and America are less-than-thrilled by the way they're seen. In a follow-up to the joke at the beginning of Hetalia: Axis Powers Volume 3, Italy says he'd be happy to pay the dinner bill if he was out with two girls. Later, Japan is hanging out at Germany's house and notices that his dog, Berlitz, is muddy and offers to wash him. However, he ends up going overboard and dressing him up in clothes as well. France tells Germany that he feels like they've become very close friends, but when Spain and Greece show up asking Germany for money, France stays silent. Finally, America and England try to make Japan laugh by wearing cat ears, but instead Japan finds it cute and asks to take a picture.
This chapter is a reprinted version of "Episode 6: We're delivering this month's with additional pages!" from the May 2012 edition of Comic Birz.
Track.7 - Together with Russia (ロシアと一緒 Roshia to issho?, trans. "With Russia" in the Tokyopop edition.)
Russia arrives to a world meeting late, explaining that his boss ordered him to stop a tank with his body, and he ends up trailing blood into the meeting room. While some nations are off-put, France takes a more cheery demeanor as he wants access to some of Russia's natural resources. America, on the other hand, bluntly shows complete disregard for Russia even when threatened. While England is annoyed by America's mouthing off in meetings, Russia points out his youth and his culture's outlook that shapes how he behaves. England sees his point, but is immediately horrified when Russia says that its more fun to snap in half the provocative ones. As the day winds down, Russia sends "pressure" to Japan, who deflects it, annoyed. After Russia returns home, he cheerfully discusses his day with Lithuania. However, he becomes dejected when Lithuania points out the artifice in those meetings.
This chapter is a reprinted version of "Episode 7: Things that often happen when the Allies assemble..." from the June 2012 edition of Comic Birz. It was later adapted in the episode "Together with Russia" of the anime series.
Track.8 - A Wise Man has No Specialty (君子は器ならず Kunshihakinarazu?, trans. "A Gentleman is No Specialist" in the Tokyopop edition.)
China notices that Russia isn't feeling well, and offers to sell him some herbal remedies from his house, though Russia thinks he's joking. It is explained that China has the largest house in Asia that he shares with many provinces who don't work well together, making for a crowded and combative living situation. Later, arriving first for a meeting, China contemplates the lessons he could impart on the younger nations, and France (hiding in the curtains) is impressed by the meditative atmosphere he creates. Later during the strategy meeting, America's convinced China can solve a lot of these issues on his own, and its revealed that he's become overly familiar with stereotypes found in movies featuring China. After the meeting lets out, China spots Hong Kong walking down a hallway with England, and decides to go to talk to him. However, after approaching him alone, he discovers that Hong Kong's mannerisms and behavior has changed since he's been gone, and China angrily berates England.
This chapter is a reprinted version of "Episode 8: New Volume 5 on sale from the 31st of July!" from the July 2012 edition of Comic Birz, with minor alterations to the drawings and added screentones and backgrounds. It was later adapted in the episode "Together with Russia" of the anime series.
Track.9 - Soldiers for a Short While (つかの間の兵士達 Tsukanoma no heishi-tachi?, trans. "A Brief Moment in the Life of a Soldier" in the Tokyopop edition.)
Germany finishes work early and, when he wonders what he should do now, an angel (Italy) and a devil (Romano) appear on his shoulders, and both tell him he should go to Italy. Elsewhere, when they're setting up camp, Italy tells Germany that he's bored just sitting around in his tent. Germany agrees to hang out with him, and Italy says he wants to try out some acupuncture that Japan taught him. England sneaks into the outskirts of the camp, and sees the shadows of Germany and Italy inside the tent, with the appearance that Germany is physically hurting Italy. England, alarmed and confused, bursts in to find out what was going on, only to discover Germany wasn't doing the acupuncture on Italy correctly.
This chapter is a reprinted version of "Thanks for Topping 1.4 Million Copies!" from the August 2010 edition of Comic Birz, with the character profiles in the margins removed. It was later adapted in the episode "In those days, Chibi-chan was..." of the anime series.
Track.10 - I, Like, Wanna be Free! (自由になリたいんですよ的な Jiyū ni naritai ndesu yo-tekina?, trans. "Like, I Want to be Free" in the Tokyopop edition.)
Hong Kong announces that he wants to live on his own, much to China's shock. China asks him if it's because he meddled with his film-making or because he peddled off some strange food onto him, but Hong Kong explains that he just wants to have a little freedom. When China presses more, Hong Kong admits a litany of complaints regarding the way China dresses and how he never returns his slippers. China returns the slippers but addresses nothing else. When that doesn't work, China channels his sadness into a poem that he recites out loud. It is then revealed that when Hong Kong wasn't around, China "cleaned" his room by censoring everything that was in there. Enraged, Hong Kong finally decides to leave. When Macau refuses to help, China resorts to begging and Hong Kong agrees to stay on one condition. In the end, China dresses up in a Hello Kitty costume and allows Hong Kong to take a picture. Follow-up strips explore the role of money in Chinese cultures, and Hong Kong helps Taiwan achieve feng shui in her room.
Track.11 - Gakuen Hetalia: Go Forth! Newspaper Club!! Second Half (学園ヘタリア 進め!新聞部!!【後半戦】 Gakuen hetaria susume! Shinbun-bu! 'Kōhan-sen'?, trans. "Hetalia Academy Let's Go Newspaper Club!! [Part 2]" in the Tokyopop edition.)
In the follow-up to "Gakuen Hetalia: Go Forth! Newspaper Club!!" from Hetalia: Axis Powers Volume 4, Italy, Germany, and Japan continue researching the clubs at school. They meet with the Nordic Club, where Denmark explains that they design furniture, but then lies and says that the furniture turns into a robot, which results in Sweden putting him in a choke-hold. They then meet with the Going Home After School Club, which consists only of Switzerland, and the Canada Club, which consists of Canada and is about relaxing and appreciating Canada. Romano is part of a second Going Home After School Club but can't manage to muster the energy to get off the ground and go home, and Thailand and India are a part of the Elephant Appreciation Club. When they talk to Hungary and Australia in the Swimming Club, Germany is impressed that they actually seem serious until Australia challenges Japan to a 10 km race. At the Music Club, Austria complains that Prussia does nothing but cause chaos, and Sealand and his friends have a club petitioning for admittance into the school. In the end, Germany declares that the school is simply weird, and they come across a room that apparently houses 27 clubs. Upon entering, they discover that Italy is actually the founder and sole member of all them, and after scolding him are able to finally publish their next issue.
This chapter was later adapted in the episode "Gakuen Hetalia: Go Forth! Newspaper Club!! Second Half" of the anime series.
Track.12 - Brother! We are...!! (兄弟よ!俺達は…!! Kyōdai yo! Oretachi wa…!!?, trans. "Dear Brother! We are...!!" in the Tokyopop edition.)
Prussia announces that he's going to be teaching Germany diplomatic poses, though Germany says that he'll never use them. As they interact with each other, Turkey and Austria look on, and the former observes that they seem to be opposites of each other and wonders how that happened. However, Austria reveals that they are both extremely tidy (whereas Austria and Italy are not). Meanwhile, back during WWII, Germany and Prussia wear American military uniforms in order to sneak into the army to gain intel. However, Prussia hides when a soldier interrupts them when they're rummaging through America's stuff. Germany pretends to be an American in order to keep their cover, much to hos own embarrassment and Prussia's amusement. Afterward, America tells his soldiers to be more vigilant when keeping an eye out for German spies.
This chapter is largely a reprinted version of the last three strips of the webcomic "4koma Requests Summary 1" of the 2011 Christmas Event. It was later adapted in the episode "Brother! We are...!!" of the anime series.
Track.13 - Back Then, You Used to Be... (あの頃のお前は… Anogoro no omaeha…?, trans. "Back Then, You Were..." in the Tokyopop edition.)
America shows off his new tanks to England, who scolds him for overproducing. However, upon reflection, England realizes that in the past America has had to make due with keeping and using the same supplies for a long time, and, taking pity on him, gives him some chocolate. Later, England is celebrating a victory over Germany and Italy in Africa when America arrives, announcing that he's ready to help him in his time of need. However, the equipment he arrives with is ill-suited to the desert, though he insists it'll be fine. He suggests military strategies that aren't feasible, and antagonizes England, creating more work. As a result, when America goes out to fight he loses, and comes back to camp beaten up. England scolds him, and the Campaign is such a disaster that they're forced to retreat and leave their equipment behind, much to Russia's glee.
This chapter is a reprinted version of the webcomic "America When He's Not Used to the Battlefield" and a strip from the 2011 Christmas Event. It was later adapted in the episode "The Life of the Great Man, the Awesome Me" of the anime series.
Track.14 - Hetalia à la carte (ヘタリア アラカルト Hetaria ara karuto?, trans. "Hetalia A La Carte" in the Tokyopop edition.)
While attending a meeting of the EU, France gives Germany words of encouragement, and Germany vents his frustrations that he could see this economic downturn coming. France is scandalized by this notion, snowballing the implications in his mind until he accuses Germany of being the mastermind behind all of it, much to the latter's confusion. Later, France emails England telling him that he'll be coming for a visit and asking for hotel recommendations. Skeptical, England just sends him a link to a hotel search site and tells him to find one himself, and when looking through them France realizes how many of England's hotels have ghosts as a feature. Sometime in December, Hungary celebrates the festivities by dressing up as Krampus. When Italy sees her he freaks out, thinking it's a real monster, and calls to Germany for help.
This chapter is a reprinted version of the webcomic strip "Mastermind" from "Blog Comic Summary.", a strip from the "4koma Requests Summary 2" of the 2011 Christmas Event, and a strip from the "Christmas Trivia Comics" of the 2011 Christmas Event.
Track.15 - Though I May Depart, You Shall Remain (私が去ろうとも貴方は残る Watashi ga saroutomo anata wa nokoru?, trans. "Even If I Leave, You Will Remain" in the Tokyopop edition.)
A French soldier sleeps and dreams about how, as a child, his grandfather showed him his old photo album and told him about a man he met called "France". Upon being woken up by his superior, he mentions this dream and is pointed towards France who is walking nearby. Shocked, the solider rushes over to confront him, and demands to know what he is and why he doesn't seem to age. France gives a cryptic answer, comparing himself to a ship that is continuously repaired and still used as long as there is still someone around to do it. That night, the soldier tells his wife what happened and ponders what it would be like to be young forever. However, his wife points out that he would watch everyone he knows grow old and die and continue on forever essentially alone. Taking this in, the solider agrees that he much prefers growing old with her and living their lives together.
This chapter is a largely reprinted version of the webcomic "Though I May Depart, You Shall Remain". The quote "Je m'en vais, mais l'État demeurera toujours" featured on the first page of the webcomic version was removed, as was the final page depicting France watching a crowd of people and listening to music. It was later adapted in the episode "Though I May Depart, You Shall Remain" of the anime series.
