Plot Summary
In the spring when she was 19, Lisa visited France by herself, where she came to Mont Saint-Michel. She was taking a photo of France when the latter saw her and somewhat scared her. He then looked at Lisa carefully before asking to show her around. He led her to a place where they could see the beauty of the monastery and its surroundings. There, Lisa saw France looking at her again, much to her confusion. She introduced herself to him and asked how she would address him. France replied that he was "big brother France" and his hobby was to go on strike, which made Lisa thought of him as a frivolous guide, and wondered if it was okay to go with him.
On the way, France asked her about the Hundred Years' War, which was a war between England and France. He claimed to work on a plan during that time, which made Lisa looking at him suspiciously. He then talked about a girl who said that God had instructed her to make Charles VII become King. France asked Lisa who the girl was. She answered that it was Jeanne d'Arc. France happily claimed that he knew Jeanne too, while Lisa did not understand why he was so happy for that. He informed her that Jeanne was the one who released Orleans and succeeded in holding Charles VII's coronation ceremony, and that she did all of them within only four months.
When Lisa said Jeanne ended up being burnt at the stake, France replied that it was May 30th, 1431 when the king abandoned her and no one rescued her. He then said that, the stronger one's patriotism is, the more often they end their lives in a tragic way. He also hoped that, all the people that get tossed about by history will be reborn in a normal life, fall in love, and end up living happily somewhere. France said that when he saw Lisa, he thought God does wonderful things. He also told Lisa to "be happy this time" and that his wish had come true. Lisa asked him what he was talking about, only to find him disappeared.
Back to the present, Lisa tells the story to her mother, who thinks it was a ghost. Behind them, America knows that it was France and calls him "a playboy".
