The second season of Hetalia: World Series, based on the webmanga Hetalia: Axis Powers by Hidekaz Himaruya, premiered on September 10, 2010 and concluded on March 11, 2011 on the website Animate.TV. It is also the fourth season overall of the anime series Hetalia. It follows the adventures of anthropomorphic countries as they live through historical events and interact with focus on differences in culture and positive and negative Japanese stereotypes of other countries.
Recurring storylines this season include the complicated relationship between Hungary and Prussia, The early days of Lithuania, The beginning of Poland and Lithuania'a alliance, and the end of the Sakoku policy in Japan upon the arrival of the Black Ships, as well as fictionalized accounts about the nations' pet cats, the eating habits of the Axis Powers, England getting captured by the Italy brothers and trying to escape, and the Axis Powers and Allied Forces of World War II having a standoff while stranded on one of the islands of Seychelles.
Four DVD Volumes containing episodes from the fourth season were released in Japan between March 30, 2011 and September 21, 2011. Each volume was originally released as a limited edition package containing a special CD with two alternate versions of the Hatafutte Parade theme song sung by a different character.[1] The entire fourth season was released in one box set on December 26, 2012.[1] Three extra episodes broadcast intermittently after the end of the season were included in the World Series Fandisc which was released in Japan on February 22, 2012, and was later included on the English release of the fourth season. An additional episode based on the Hetalia Fantasia Drama CD was released as a special straight-to-DVD Animate exclusive on September 25, 2012, but hasn't been included in any English release. The Volume releases were distributed by Muse in Taiwan[2] and later repackaged into one box set,[3] released first in Hong Kong where it was distributed by Kam & Ronson.[4]
In the United States and Canada, Funimation Entertainment announced on July 30, 2010 that they had licensed the World Series seasons of Hetalia[5]. The complete fourth season was released on July 3, 2012[6]. This release was distributed by Manga Entertainment in the United Kingdom[7] and by Madman Entertainment in Australia and New Zealand.[8]
