Hello there Icelilly,
I noticed you were having some trouble with customizing the Monobook skin. You were editing MediaWiki:MonoBook.css, while it should not have a capital B. I have moved the page to the correct title at: MediaWiki:Monobook.css. --Jedimca0<staff/>(talk) 21:01, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Thank you so much!! I knew something didn't look right! Silly me. I never noticed the captial B. Thank you again for speedy help! Icelilly 21:04, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

News

I think I got the coding. It shouldn't be too difficult to implement, and all we would need is a separate section dedicated to "Hetalia News," differentiating itself from Shout news. Do you want me to go ahead and do it? Also, I'm preparing myself for some new categorizing and listing when the new pages are transferred. Because of this server's editing format, it's much easier for me to do so. It's nothing drastic, but linking is going to become very important because we lack a sidebar. Redirects will also make it loads easier than before. I was also wondering if some pages could be renamed, but I'll ask about them individually after the transfer. Watermint 01:27, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Go ahead! I'll get your reply on your talk page in a minute (dealing with forums right now! XD). Icelilly 01:56, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

It worked^^ Unfortunately, I did bump out the "Did You Know" section because I couldn't figure out how to add another section--the template wouldn't let me. Can you find anything? If not, then we can find out how to use a different template. If worse comes to worse, then we could just remove one of them. But, anyway, the news is linked to Hetalia Archives:Main Page/News, which will contain the archives and where one directly uploads news. A source should be credited, as to avoid potential false information. Additionally, I've created for pages such as that one. Altogether a pretty nifty venture, I think. I'm currently looking into other Wikipedia features that might be nice to implement here. Watermint 20:43, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Mint, you're a darling you know that? We could mix Hetalia News with the Wiki News so we can keep the Did You Know? section. But that's entirely up to you. If you find something, let me know! I'm bringing back the Userbox feature here once the transfer has gone through. Icelilly 21:03, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
I had a random thought, we could try for a similar layout like WikiMoon does. It's pretty clean and doesn't require templates. http://wikimoon.org/index.php?title=Main_Page Icelilly 21:08, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks^^ I like the WikiMoon set up. It's a bit more simple, but at the same time easier to navigate. Plus, it would mean having separate News, Hetalia News, and Did You Know? sections. Perhaps we could create symbols to place next to news updates? For example, some purple shape would mean "character news." Though not necessarily needed, I think it would look pretty. If you look at the original Wikipedia links I provided, [1] the images definitely make it look less bare. Watermint 03:38, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
That's pretty cool! But I don't think it's needed. However, I am thinking of putting up flags in the menu (kinda like WikiMoon has the plantary symbols on theirs). The flags shouldn't be hard to find. What do you think? Icelilly 03:45, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good. The nice thing about flags is that they aren't made by any one artist and should qualify under fair use (or something like that). Another thing...Perhaps we could make it so that flags for a specific nation were shown on the upper right corner of character pages? For an example of what I mean, look here [2]. The image, in this case, means that they are part of Wikiproject Japan. Though I'm not sure about the exact coding, I think it might be a nice touch to have such a thing on character pages. To look nice if nothing else. If not that, then perhaps add a flag in the updated infobox. It could work something like this [3], but instead list the represented country with a little flag. The flags can be interesting and helpful, especially for characters like Seychelles or TRNC. Watermint 22:11, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
That sounds like a great idea! Do you think you can find some coding for that? I'm going to try to make some sort of a mock-up in a sandbox. Icelilly 23:48, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Depends. Coding for the infoboxes I already know. If you want flags in the corner, I can start researching right away. Watermint 01:26, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Flags in the corner please! I find some small flags but first I have to edit them before use (since they came in a giant sheet). Icelilly 01:33, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
I'll start looking around then ;) Watermint 01:34, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Alright, I think I got it. All I need you to do is create an image file with a flag. Note that size doesn't matter in this case. Also, when uploading, the name should preferably state the nation name. For example, "USA Flag" or "Estonia Flag." After that, I can work it out. Watermint 01:47, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Sure thing! I'll start working right away! Icelilly 04:06, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Update

No ideas there, sorry. They don't appear to get lost on my computer, though...? For colors, maybe a softer blue would work. The green is a bit bright, and has a tendency to stand out too much.

I'm still working on the template. I've encountered some problems that I'm currently trying to get around. For the other flags, you don't have to make them. Some sites offer their images, as long as you give them credit. Size of the image doesn't matter because Shout allows them to be resized at will. So, I'd suggest using these: TRNC, Seychelles, Sealand. All you must do is properly attribute them using this. Watermint 21:35, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

I can try a nice blue. Thanks for the idea! We would actually match with Kitayume. XD I've alright started on the flags actually. The problem with the link you gave me is they're not pixelized and don't match the ones already uploaded. Seychelles should be uploaded though. Good luck working out the kinks! Icelilly 21:44, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Still working on getting the images up. At this point, it seems I may have to create an entirely new template. Sorry that it's taking longer than expected. Watermint 15:11, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Don't worry about it! There's absolutely no rush. :D Icelilly 19:28, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
I may have found something...Using a specific image code, I was able to fit the flag on the center of the page. While text does not appear when the mouse hovers about it, it does link to pages. Unfortunately, it isn't next to the title page and basically floats above text (see my user page; I've tested it there). It does have some pros; namely, it's easy to see, it's kinda flashy, and individual templates for each flag won't have to be created. It's up to you, though. Is it fine, or do you want me to keep looking? Watermint 03:13, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
I have no problem with it. But I wonder if the other users will mind. You don't mind that I post this on Twitter and Hetayume do you? Icelilly 05:10, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Not at all^^ Oh, and of course it would only be on character pages. Watermint 15:40, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Just posted it up on Twitter! 16:42, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
That's great! I'll await their responses. Watermint 16:49, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Just a few questions: Have you posted on LJ about Shout and the Hetayume forums yet? If you haven't, I think it'd be a good idea to announce both at some point after Shout has gotten all the articles and they've been cleaned up a bit. Any feedback for the flags yet? If needed, Hetayume might be a nice place to ask because it has more users. After articles have been dumped here, I also have a few proposals to clean up the pages...But I'll wait for them to come here first. Also, about the idea to link Wikia links to this place, should they go to corresponding articles or a singular article explaining the switch? I fear it might go over some people's heads.
But here's one minor idea for when pages make it over here. Instead of using a bunch of lists for voice actor information (on episode pages, CD pages, etc.) why not use tables? They make things clean and easy to understand...And can even be color-coded any time we think it makes sense. For an example of what I mean, here. Just imagine the categories being something along the lines of "Character" "JPN VA" and "ENG VA". Watermint 19:41, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Ah, so should I go ahead and change the update page, or is there no consensus? Watermint 21:41, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Bawww! I'm so sorry. I've just been swamped the last few days with family stuff. @_@
No, I haven't. I'm waiting till we get the dump before we break the news to LJ. The fourms will be included in that post. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll get it this week now that WikiSimpsons is out of the way. I'm still really unsure what to with the old Wikia because they'll just revert my edits and ban me globally (which means no one is taking care of South Park Fanon). This has happened to a few admins.
The flags have been mixed. FH14 said it looked a bit odd for it to be in the middle of the page and Ceras is indifferent to it as well as me. FH14 is thinking of including the flags in the new template where the country name is as he already has the code for it. I just made flags for Sealand and HRE. But I'm having problems making the others so any help is welcomed! Also, I agree on the tables! I told Ceras about it and she likes the idea as well. Icelilly 23:07, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Flags on the infoboxes, I'm assuming then? Sounds fine, and they're fairly easy to do. Though, as a heads up, the flagicon coding used on Wikipedia wont work on this because a template hasn't been created. I believe I looked into it, but wound up confused and never went farther. But, we'll deal with it when the time comes. (Plus getting flags in the infoboxes won't be difficult, even without the Wiki template; I know a substitute.) One good thing about images here is that we wont have to deal with the way images are uploaded. Just stick the file name anywhere on the page, unless you want to change it's size and such. It's nice. I'll take care of relinking, then, and just label my edits as "link fixes". Don't worry about it yourself, especially seeing as you are an admin. All I need to know is whether to link them to corresponding pages or a separate page explaining the switch, and I'll gladly do it.
I'm pretty bad at creating anything artistic...Unless it's a wolf, fox, large lizard, or some other miscellaneous animals. For flags, are you looking for anything pixelated or only things covered by fair use or in public domain? And which ones still need to be made? I actually may be able to help with TRNC, now that I think you it. I'll try it out. Good about the tables! I'm rather found of them for organizing information. Watermint 01:12, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
The flags will be inside the info box next to the country's full name. FH14 said he had the code since it was used on the LG15 wiki that he helped run (it's where he got the idea for the new character portal on his beta page).
I'm looking for pixel ones that look identical to the ones we are using now. I've only made Sealand's and HRE's flags. I tried doing TRNC's and Prussia's but failed horribly. Seborga's and Rome's also has to get done. FH14 said he would try to make Prussia's but only if he had time. Icelilly 01:30, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
I've been trying it, though it's proven to be difficult (that star!). I'll keep trying, though ;) Watermint 03:09, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

CSS Update

Hey could you add

  1. bodyContent div.portal_charbox div.portal_inner_charbox {

visibility: hidden; }

  1. bodyContent div.portal_charbox:hover div.portal_inner_charbox {

visibility: visible; }

to MediaWiki:Monobook.css? (For some reason the code doesn't display correctly. Edit the talk page and copy how I wrote it in there) --FH14beta 03:52, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

I added it to the CSS. It appears to be working on your user page! Icelilly 19:31, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Potential Organization?

For character pages, I was wondering if we could attempt to organize them a bit differently so that they may come across cleaner and are easier to navigate. I've made a mock-up here; User:Watermint/Sandbox. Of course anime and drama CD appearances would be optional, depending on if the character appeared. Manga appearances would encompass all drawn appearances. I believe these sections would be useful, not only for providing extra information, but for characters like TRNC who first appear in the CDs. It may also increase traffic to those pages. Furthermore, it'd be nice to mention when exactly characters like Wy and Seborga were introduced and where. I also felt the "Name" section seemed to just float there, so I thought a section for all character attributes may be useful. Comments and opinions? Watermint 03:09, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

FH14 is trying to add in a function that would make a lot of the information collaspable in the template. Some info that isn't applicable (like the human names for example) won't be shown when the template is loaded. Alhough, I'm not sure if he's programmed that into the code yet (it appears he hasn't). I do like the organization of the page layout. The Drama CDs could be useful as some characters have only made their appearances there and not the anime (yet). I assume the Name section is where the human name falls? If yes, I think it looks fine there as it technically falls under there and no where else (unless we move it to the Trivia section?) Icelilly 04:21, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
I like the idea of a collapsible template. Currently, I'm using that one just to give an idea of what a page would look like. And, yes, the human name section is the "Name" section. I have mixed feelings about it. Most characters don't have enough information to warrant a section. I'm also unsure about adding rumors (mostly Taiwan's section) because it feels out of place and there are a boatload of fake human names used for various nations. If not in the trivia, we could have a separate page devoted solely to human names, with each individual character's name linking to said page. In some ways, a separate page would be better: we could go into more detail about when they were created and their current status, and I suppose the sections could do "History", "Usage", "Characters" (with multiple subsections) or something. That isn't to say we wouldn't have anything on a character page--more a trivia note which is more broad in nature, while the page goes into greater detail. For now, I'm putting a "(?)" by the Name section. Watermint 04:42, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
A seperate page for the human names isn't such a bad idea. There could be talk about the usage of the fanon names which would clean up part of the Memes or Misconceptions pages (Ceras has been wanting to clean up the memes page for a while now). I really like the idea! I'll pitch the idea to the others. But I'm sure hey'll be on board too. Icelilly 04:51, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Yo, just jumping in but the collapseable sections are working. (with two exceptions, mainly the full country name and the Japanese voice actor, as I can't collapse the colored bars and if they are floating alone it looks strange.) I made the mock-up with Italy because he had most of the options except the alternate spellings field used. For example, if we used it for, say, Taiwan, it would look like this -->

I'm loving the new organization, the only suggestion I would make is that "Games" be added underneath the appearances section and it be ordered "Manga", "Game", "Drama CD", "Anime" to reflect the template. And you have a resounding yes from me on a separate page for the human names - I can even code it so the "Human Name" and "Alternate Spellings" fields automatically link to that page. ^_^ -FH14beta 06:27, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

It looks awesome!! I have no problem with a Game section but it's entirely up to Mint if she wants it or not. C: Icelilly 06:37, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
That looks really great! It's also nice that we don't have to put N/A for any section. Good idea to have games. I've changed the organization page to reflect the "Manga", "Games", etc., now. It will be an especially useful section for characters like Seychelles. Glad you guys like the separate page idea. Personally, I always felt the memes and misconception pages were rather messy. Or, at least difficult to link to and find for the average person. Starting this new Wiki is like doing spring cleaning! New thought, too: should music CDs revolving around the character be placed in the anime section or their own? They are much more related to the anime than the drama CDs are and music can even appear within the anime, so it makes some sense to have it there. Watermint 14:51, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, Ceras was losing her mind over that pages. She was ready to get that red pen out! XD I'm a bit iffy about the music CDs. What exactly would fall under there? Is there even info we can add there? Icelilly 19:22, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Just character CDs. Think a sentence along the lines of "Several character CDs released in conjunction with the anime series have been themed around Japan. These include Japan CD #1, Japan CD #2, etc." I imagine it would be placed at the bottom of the anime section. It wouldn't be in-depth or anything, and would increase traffic to various CD articles. Watermint 20:08, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Agreed. Though I think information about any Drama tracks on the character CDs (for example, "Asian And Western Festivals" from China's Character CD) would fall under the drama CD section. Only songs and musical scores associated with the character would go under the anime section. :/ -FH14beta 21:56, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Ah, okay then! Sure we can do that! Keep up the great work guys! <3 Do you guys have any other suggestions while we're at it? Icelilly 23:33, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Oh, yes, of course drama aspects will be in the drama CD section. I have a few more suggestions, but I'm a bit busy at the moment. I'll come back later to explain them. Watermint 15:34, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Awesome! I look forward to hearing your suggestions! Icelilly 20:04, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Further propositions

For the dump, I think it would be best to have all pages use Hetalia: Axis Powers with a note about the alternate Axis Powers: Hetalia on major pages. Most sources, including several Japanese ones, use the HAP spelling. For consistency purposes, I believe we should as well. Second, I'd like to merge lists involving strips/chapters into two pages: List of Published Hetalia: Axis Powers Chapters/Strips and List of Unpublished Hetalia: Axis Powers Strips. The Wikia currently has the Lost Strips, Webcomic Chapters, and Published Chapters. Why not merge the "Lost" list into the unpublished list and simply use a separate section? A main list also provides information on which strips Himaruya has left to redraw or collect into a volume.

Finally, I think it might be a good idea to have a main Hetalia: Axis Powers page in place of the manga page. It could link to all of its related media: chapters, drama CDs, anime, etc. We already have something like it here, but a central article would probably fit more. Perhaps have specific pages for drama CDs and music. The anime page is fairly messy, though placing cast sections in tables will definitely help. Also, maybe we can create separate pages for each season? Currently, the list is getting very long, and it's already a bit difficult to navigate. A separate page could showcase the Funimation boxsets and Japanese releases. Ah, but here's my mock-up: User:Watermint/Sandbox2.

Also...I think we may really end up needing a page for Hetalia-related artbooks, from the anime or otherwise. 20:12, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

I thought we were already doing the APH to HAP transition? XD
I have no problem merging the chapter pages. I'm still unsure about a main page as it could get messy but I'm up for a debate on it. I remember we had a merchandising page but I deleted it so we could start fresh. Maybe the artbooks can be placed there? I also remember talk about a possible DVDs page but that was around the time of the debate of moving so nothing ever got done. Icelilly 20:57, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
I thought we were, too, but the straggling APHs confused me XD Think of the main page as like the manga page but a bit more in-depth. It would mostly just describe the plot, give us basic character descriptions, and link to related media, though the page's focus would lean more towards the manga that anything else. A merchandise page isn't a bad idea, as long as we make sure to filter out bootlegs. And, in general, I'd limit what is available on each item. Perhaps have a "toy" section and list off that Hetalia has inspired "pens, stickers, plushies, etc." and maybe give brief descriptions of some of the more popular ones? I'd just worry about it overflowing. I think a DVD page could work, though perhaps more emphasis should be placed on it being a season ("Hetalia: Season 1") or something. Japan has produced a million different DVDs because they don't release boxsets currently, so I think season pages would work better. We could work out a system where the main episode list gives titles and release dates, while the season pages have the images and are more in-depth. Meaning we could keep both pages and they would both serve a unique purpose. Watermint 21:13, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Ah, so it would be like the main Wikipedia page? I have no problem with that! The merchandising page is something that's still up in the air so we'll see what will happen. Icelilly 21:12, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Link switches

Now that the move has been completed, do you want me to go ahead with linking the Wikia to Shout? It's so exciting being here (finally). Cleaning up these articles is going to be a bit tough, but we'll make it XD Watermint 02:47, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

That's already been taken care off! LJ has the new link and Wikia has the link as well. Hetayume Forums and DA (or at least my sig advertising the site) has been changed as well. If you can think of anywhere else that might have the link, please go right ahead!
BTW, it's good to see you back here. :D I started up a new wiki for South Park if you want to choice in on the fun. <3 Icelilly 02:51, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Welcome back! It IS going to be a lot of work, especially removing fanon and correcting information (I think the profiles could be scaled down some, maybe). But I can't wait to see how everything goes too! Black-Noto 21:55, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Volume Pages?

I've created a sort of mock-up for what volume pages might look like: (User:Watermint/Chapters). Though only look at volume 1 right now XD I've also created a Template:Books. We could include a release section that details releases (particularly for licensing outside of North America) within volume pages as well. I feel this set-up keeps everything organized but is still helpful. Each volume gets a page, and there is a separate list for unpublished strips. The last main section on my page is for unpublished strips, and also has a few sections (holiday specials, incomplete, etc.). While volume pages would be better without a summary of each strip, I see no harm in doing it with a list of unpublished strips, which will probably be losing sub-sections with each volume release. Thoughts? Watermint 02:35, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

The page looks FANTASTIC. I'm honestly in awe right now because that's how amazing the page is. This is perfect! I have no problem with doing a list. I think it would look great! You get the a-okay from me! Icelilly 04:25, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank you! I'm waiting to do volume 2 until it comes in the mail. As Tokyopop is the official English licensor, it makes sense to use their translations for strips and chapters (especially with Japanese, which can often be translated multiple ways and give off the same effect), so I've been sticking to those. For the volume pages...Should I use the North American or original cover for the infobox? I've uploaded both versions here, so they can both be used somewhere, but I'm wondering if there is a preference. For continuity's sake, I think we should stick with one main infobox image and then the other as a supplementary image. Watermint 02:18, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Sounds good! I think the original Japanese cover would be better. It's a more familiar cover. Icelilly 02:46, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello

Hello Icelilly, this is Butterfly from wikia.

Alright, now that I've finally concluded this semester in college, I would like to know if you still want me to design a new theme for the wiki, if yes, then can you give me the specifics of how it works here? I'm not quite familiar with how the 'theme designer' works in shoutwiki, so knowing restrictions like file size limits and stuff would be very helpful. Can backgrounds be tiled? Stuff like that. Also, do you want me to update the logo too?

Thank you. --Butterfly 17:49, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Alright, here is the new background for the SW wiki. http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/oo156/7thVanity/HetBG.png

If you would like me to change anything, like the tones of green it has or make the colours less bright etc, just tell me. :) The background is meant to be tiled and aligned to the left. --Butterfly 19:21, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm really glad you guys liked it. :)

Sure! Here are the red and blue versions:
