Machiavelli didn't write "The Art of War"! Sun Tzu did. Machiavelli wrote "The Prince," which was a discussion of whether a prince should be loved or feared by his people for the best effect on the society. The book was in praise of Cesare Borgia, a leader who was feared by his people, and also historically based on Lucius Cornelius Sulla, a dictator of Rome prior to Julius Caesar.
