Germany/South Italy is a slash pairing in the series Axis Powers Hetalia, involving the characters of Germany and South Italy (also referred to as Romano).

First meeting

When South Italy first met Germany, he told him to eat bullets and called him a "potato bastard". But right before that he looks and acts really shy. In further confrontations he mentions to use violence, which he never does and is propably not even able to. He seems to hate him with a passion but he's probably just hoping to protect his brother from the outside world and the "bad influence" of Germany.

Probable jealousy

It is also discussed about the fact that it could be possible that Romano is jealous of all the love Feliciano gets. After being always the second choice, Romano built a shell around him to protect him...unfortunately he doesn't notice that this is just the "I hurt you so you can't hurt me"- way.

Hate?

After all those threats, insults and verbal bullying, Germany still feels mostly neutral about the southern part of Italy and doesn't fight back when talking to him. So you cannot write their relation off as "hate". With this couple you can choose every genre. Angst, fluff and horror fits well with them. Though it's mostly angst or hurt/comfort you will see them in.

Probably the most important "Germano"-episode besides Axis Powers episode 7 is World series episode 1 also called episode 53. Romano shares the habit of his brother, not knowing how to throw a grenade and throwing the pin instead of the grenade itself, leaving it stuck in his mouth. Germany freaks out completely, showing that he is really concered about South Italy's wellbeing. We don't know how it ends and therefore have no idea as to how Romano survived.

Fanclub?

Eventhough the pairing isn't nearly as popular as GerIta or Spamano, it does have a "small" fanbase.
