The first season of Hetalia: World Series, based on the webmanga Hetalia: Axis Powers by Hidekaz Himaruya, premiered on March 26, 2010 and concluded on September 3, 2010 on the website Animate.TV. It is also the third season overall of the anime series Hetalia. It follows the adventures of anthropomorphic countries as they live through historical events and interact with focus on differences in culture and positive and negative Japanese stereotypes of other countries.
Recurring storylines this season include the early relationship between Hungary and the Teutonic Knights, Japan's close relationships with Greece and Turkey, Preparations for the 1939 Invasion of Poland, Spain's rule of Southern Italy, The War of the Austrian Succession, Sweden and Finland's departure from the Kalmar Union, and the formation of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance.
Four DVD Volumes containing episodes from the third season were released in Japan between June 25, 2010 and December 22, 2010. Each volume was originally released as a limited edition package containing a special CD with two alternate versions of the Hatafutte Parade theme song sung by a different character.[1] The entire third season was released in one box set on November 28, 2012.[1] One extra episode depicting events between the first and second episode of the season was included on the Axis Powers Fandisc which was released in Japan on May 25, 2010, and was later included on the English release of the fourth season. The Volume releases were distributed by Muse in Taiwan[2] and later repackaged into one box set,[3] released first in Hong Kong where it was distributed by Kam & Ronson.[4]
In the United States and Canada, Funimation Entertainment announced on July 30, 2010 that they had licensed the World Series seasons of Hetalia[5]. The complete third season was released on January 17, 2012[6]. This release was distributed by Manga Entertainment in the United Kingdom[7] and by Madman Entertainment in Australia and New Zealand.[8]
