Korea/Japan is a slash pairing in the series Hetalia: Axis Powers, involving the characters of Korea and Japan. The pairing originates from the heavy interaction the two characters had during the period where Korea was a prominent character in the series. However, the strips featuring the two characters proved extremely controversial, leading to a large protest that led to a ban of the series in South Korea and the removal of the Korea character from the anime adaption.

In the Manga

Korea and Japan interact heavily in a series of strips called the Korea Joke Series. Japan is shown to be rather annoyed by Korea's behavior, and Korea either doesn't notice or becomes incredibly upset (depending on how clear Japan is). In one strip, Korea asks Japan if he can touch his breasts. Japan refuses Korea becomes upset yet manages to grope Japan anyway, much to the later's horror. In several other strips, Korea claims many of Japan's inventions as his own (such as hot spring baths and "tsundere"), saying that they "originated in Korea".

Korea once said that Japan used to bully him when they were children, though this seemed to stem from a mistranslation of a drawing he found of the two of them getting along. Korea often says he doesn't like Japan, and in one strip when Korea wants to work with Japan on a canal, Japan points this out to him and he becomes unresponsive. In one segment he is shown using Japanese flags for a variety of items such as shirts, and becomes distressed when he receives a shipment of Bangladesh flags instead.

Fan Speculation

It is speculated that Korea doesn't truly dislike Japan, as he once mentioned "tsundere originated in Korea". Also, an old drawing Korea found suggests that Korea and Japan used to get along very well, though Korea doesn't appear to remember.
