Plot Summary
A Mercator projection of the island of Iceland slowly pans out to the other Nordic lands as Iceland talks about how big he looks in this projection. He says something had been bothering him so he had a DNA scan done on himself.
Inside a house, Iceland holds out a letter addressed to him and tells the other Nordics - Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway - to read it. At first, they're reluctant. But Iceland says that they'll understand once they have read it. Denmark reads it aloud; it's the results of "excavation and survey" proclaiming that Norway is Iceland's "official sibling". Everyone (except Sweden, who remains stoic) is shocked at the news; Iceland doesn't care much for it himself.
The narrator explains that the island of Iceland was uninhabited until the latter half of the 9th Century AD. When the Norwegians first arrived, there was a legend that a group of Icelandic monks lived there first. The legend was thought to be true until recently when findings confirmed that Norwegians were the first settlers of Iceland.
Denmark laughs, saying he knew Norway and Iceland were siblings. Finland is happy that Iceland found out at last. But Iceland, thinking about the monks legend, would've rather been told he was descended from a phantom people indigenous to his land. Finland still thinks it's good that Iceland now knows for sure and wishes that he had a similar relationship. Denmark sips a large glass of beer and comments that he always thought Iceland and Norway looked the same (which the two deny), were both "creepy" and both had "weirdo friends". But he then says the five of them have been like siblings anyway and doesn't mind being the oldest. Norway shuts Denmark up by grabbing his tie and choking him.
Sweden speaks up, asking Iceland and Norway if they feel better now that they know for sure. Iceland admits that he does. And Norway whispers, "dear brother". This makes Iceland uncomfortable for some reason. When prompted, Norway says Iceland promised to call him "dear brother" again if he ever found out that they were, in fact, siblings. Denmark thinks it's rather childish, while Finland thinks it's nostalgic (imagining a Kid Iceland saying it). But Iceland says there's no way he's going to say it now that he's grown up. Sweden says there's nothing wrong with saying it. Finland agrees, wanting Iceland to call him that as well. Denmark likewise asks to be called "dear brother" and Iceland says it's unorthodox to say it.
Iceland asks Norway if he'd enjoy being called "dear brother". Norway says he most definitely would and tells Iceland to say it once. He leans down and whispers "dear brother" into Iceland's ear over and over, but each time Iceland refuses to reciprocate. Finally, after Denmark (holding an empty beer glass) says drinks are on Iceland until he says it, a frustrated Iceland grabs his coat and departs, Mr. Puffin flying behind him. Denmark tries to tell Iceland he was kidding as Iceland turns the corner.
Iceland then peeks around the corner once. A few seconds later, he actually mutters "dear brother". He then stick his hand around the corner and points "thumbs-down" at the notion of calling Norway that ever again.
