The fortieth episode of Hetalia: World Series (ninety-second overall) was broadcast on January 14, 2010. It adaptsSea Turtles and Southern Italy (reprinted as Turtle Turtle Bar), along with Eastern Europe While Totally Being Pushed Around By Poland from the third published volume, and and more of Japan-kun and America-kun from the second published volume.

Plot Summary

Eastern Europe While Totally Being Pushed Around By Poland

A younger version of Lithuania introduces himself to the audience, but as he tries to explain his story, he winds up hit in the head by acorns. He eventually attempts to protect himself with his shield, but is attacked by the younger Prussia (as the Teutonic Knights), who wants to convert him.

Some time later, the younger Hungary walks along a path, irritated by having lost to the Ottoman Empire. She then spots Lithuania making arrows, and decides to talk to him. Lithuania explains that he has been targeted, while Hungary wonders how he got to be even more serious than the Germans. She then offers to give him advice on the other enemies he'll face, and starts off by explaining that the Ottoman Turks have been increasing in power (as the Ottoman Empire's masked face is shown).

Hungary then adds that there's also Wallachia (depicted as a small figure in a brown cloak), who she can't stand, though Lithuania panickedly points out that it's only an opinion. Hungary then explains that there's another strong enemy, the Tatar Ulus of Jochi, who is also known as the Golden Horde. Lithuania recognizes him and notes that one of the countries under their control (Russia) recently stopped by. Hungary states that she pities that country, but then adds that there's one more enemy, a really weird one that goes by the name of "Teutonic Knights". An arrow is shot at Lithuania and pins him in the head. He turns to face Hungary and explains that he knows all about that person, while she reacts in shock to the arrow.

The younger Prussia runs off laughing, carrying a bow and arrows with him.

Japan-kun and America-kun

America expresses delight over the "hamburger bento" he bought from a 24-hour Japanese convenience store, and tells Japan he wish he had those things back home, as all his delis close early.

Sea Turtles And Southern Italy

Romano gets drunk off of wine, depressed over the SSC Napoli losing another game, though Spain tells him that he's treating him to dinner to cheer him up. As Romano sobs over the team's failure, a baby turtle crawls up his leg. Spain then points out that the turtle came to cheer Romano up too.

Romano then realizes that more turtles are crawling all over Spain and screams that they're covering his whole body. Spain figures that the turtles must adore him, while Romano screams that they're surrounded, as a giant swarm of baby turtles enter and crawl around the restaurant, and even on Romano's face.

The narrator explains that in August of 2008, a swarm of baby turtles washed up on the coast of Calabria and made their way into a restaurant, and the authorities had to make sure that the turtles went back to their proper home.

Spain and Romano go to hand the turtles back to a policeman, but Spain brings up the idea of naming the turtles, while Romano gets irritated at the idea of him keeping them as pets.

Trivia

• The ending sequence for this episode features a group shot of the Allies along with a close-up shot of China.
• While Lithuania already had the arrow in his head in the manga (with the last panel being a gag to show it in full), the anime changed things to have it hit him in the head as the punchline.
• Wallachia was shown as a cloaked silhouette in the comic strip, but is portrayed in the anime as having blond hair poking out of their cloak.
• Romano does not get a frazzled haircurl when frightened, as he does in the manga.
• Some people have assumed that the policeman is Calabria.
