Turkey (トルコ,Toruko) is a supporting character in the series Hetalia: Axis Powers. In his younger years, he is known as the Ottoman Empire. Between 2007 and 2008, Himaruya gave human names to some of the characters and he received the name Sadık Adnan (サディク・アドナン, Sadiku Adonan).

Appearance
Turkey is rather tall and olive-skinned, with a slight stubble on his chin (much like France). He wears a long green (sometimes tan) coat, brown pants, knee-high boots, a tan scarf, and a red fez hat. His face is usually obscured by a white mask. Like Greece, he has a double haircurl, but it rests down by his neck.

When not dressed up, he can often be seen wearing a green parka and brown pants.

Personality and Interests
Turkey is described as being a lively and excessively vigorous old man. Although his exact age has never been revealed, he is one of the nations in the cast who appear to be physically older. Known as the Ottoman Empire in his younger years, Turkey was a very powerful nation with an overwhelming army force. He had the intention to conquer Europe, who was quite scared of him at the time. In the modern days, however, he thinks about befriending them.

He is usually merry and friendly, yet he is determined to compete anytime with anyone (especially Greece) about the smallest things due to his somewhat stubborn nature. He can also be nosy from time to time.

Turkey is also shown to be a huge show off; it is mentioned that he is always seeking for new things and fashion, and always stays in style. He loves to entertain tourists, and is quite a gourmet who enjoys eating various things every day. He favors the taste of sweet foods like ashure and it is revealed that he carries a bottle of a sort of apple juice to drink during breaks. His other favourite drinks include coffee (with a huge amount of sugar) and rakı, a type of Turkish alcohol. He speaks in an Edo dialect.

Relationships
Greece
Main Article: Greece

Turkey took Greece under his control after having caused the fall of Constantinople and the Byzantine Empire. Greece remained under Ottoman control until the 19th century, when he became involved in a war to regain his independence and won. The two of them are unable to get along in the same environment without a fight of some sort, even after declaring a cease-fire, and will fight over even the most petty things. Turkey built a shopping mall near Greece's border for his usage in spite of their rivalry, and Greece said he would go shopping in Turkey if he happened to be near their border. In a Christmas 2011 strip they seemed to enjoy each others company in the past when Turkey began telling stories to young Greece and Egypt. It was noted that they both share the same trait of being unable to help but stop what they're doing and dance whenever they hear music.

Greece has admitted that he's tried to get along with Turkey, but he always ends up using his "Hellas punch" on him. When asked if he could remember a time they did something fun together, he remembered when Turkey began to "bully" him in a bathhouse, though everything he did was positive(turning up the sauna's heat; scratching the dirt off of his body; massaging and stretching to remedy his stiff bones; and washing him with a loofa) as opposed to harmful.

Iceland
Main Article: Iceland

Iceland and Turkey appear to have a very friendly relationship. In 2010 Christmas/New Years event they hung out together at the Nordics house, Iceland referring to him as "Pops". In the 2011 Christmas event Iceland is shown having a dream involving Turkey partially naked and wearing a Santa hat.

Italy
Main Article: Italy

Turkey, as the Ottoman Empire, tried to conquer Italy, much like he tried to do with his older brother. However, unlike Romano, Italy actually defeated him once in a naval battle and became his rival. Many years later, when Germany and Italy visited him, Turkey jokingly commented on how Veneziano used to be strong, much to Germany's surprise. He doesn't hold any grudge about it, and even caught the pickpocket that had taken Italy's camera.

Japan
Main Article: Japan

Turkey seems to have a soft spot for Japan, and Japan, in turn, has mutual respect for him. In one strip, Turkey starts fighting with Greece when he sees them together, presuming Greece wanted to take over Japan. Turkey also threatened France on April Fool's with "Don't you dare try anything on Japan. Or else I'll invade you." In Volume 4 it is shown that merch displaying the friendship between them are everywhere in Turkey.

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
Main Article: Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

Turkey is the only nation to recognize TRNC as a legitimate country. In turn, TRNC describes Turkey as gentle and greatly admires him, going as far as to defend him against Greece in arguments.

Appearances
Anime
Turkey first appears in Episode 55, where he fights with Greece over who gets to be with Japan. The two wind up having to hang out with Turkey in the end. In Episode 75 he makes an appearance when he attacks South Italy, when he was known as the Ottoman Empire.

In the anime adaptation, his skin is lighter, and the visual gag of his eyebrows showing through his mask was elaborated in his design, showing an obvious thick dark pair of eyebrows through the white color.

He appears in the second episode of Season 5: Hetalia - A Beautiful World. The episode was an adaptation of the Gakuen Hetalia Newspaper Club strip. He was seen in the Gourmet Club alongside France and China where Germany remarks that they are a noisy group. Interestingly enough, Turkey's skin colour was reverted back to the original olive and his mask became a shade of grey rather than a pale white like his previous anime incarnation.

Trivia
*Turkey is always shown with his mask in the manga, save for two panels in Christmas Rampage 2007 when he becomes unmasked, though his face still remains obscured (first by an arm, and then somewhat shadowed out). The first instance of him appearing maskless was in the Hetalia trading card set, though he is drawn facing off to the side, preventing an entire view of his face from being shown. The second instance was a drawing Himaruya posted to his blog, where Turkey's face is clearly visible, albeit in shadow. In August 2010, a profile of Turkey was posted on Bamboo Thicket and included a link to a version where he was not wearing his mask, the first time his face is entirely visible, although still slightly shadowed.
*His birthday corresponds with Republic Day (October 29th, 1923), when the Ottoman Empire was dissolved and Turkey officially became a republic.
*In volume 4 it was revealed that he is a member of the Academy Gourmet Food Club along with France and China. In the same scene of this colored chapter, a graphic hue edit or lighting error used to accentuate the punchline of this scene accidentally discolored the character's pants, which were part of the W Academy Uniform, to an odd shade of green, opening a door for some fan confusion.

Relationships
France
Main Article: France

Ever since they formed a union in 1641, Monaco has been close to France. During the French Revolution, Monaco became a French city and her nobles lost their privileges and property. During the chaos of the Italian Unification, France helped her gain independence. Despite the time they fought for two days, their relationship is good, and they even passed a friendship pact in 2005. She relies on France for diplomatic, military, and various other affairs, so France needs to let others through if they have business with her. However, she dislikes that he pats her on the head, feeling that it is embarrassing. In the past, they fought one time due to her lack of income tax driving French companies to her home and that she didn't change it despite his request. He called her stupid, and she wondered if it would be good to call him stupid in return, so they stopped negotiations. However, because she found it impractical to go on without France, they made up and she made companies pay income tax. In her Volume 4 profile, she's referred to as his protegee.

In the published version of the America and England strip, she is shown alongside France when he mocks England for not having any friends.

Seborga
Main Article: Seborga

During the 2011 Christmas event, Monaco, upon having Seborga request to go out to eat dinner with him, agreed to do so, saying he seemed like he'd be a fun person to dine with. When he suggested they do other things afterwards (going for a drive, enjoying the night scenery, and a date the next Sunday,) she approved every part of the plan. However, she said that she would only go if he beat her in poker. Italy reveals that Seborga lost completely, however Seborga said that Monaco went to dinner with him anyway.

Seychelles
Main Article: Seychelles

During the 2011 Halloween Event, Monaco and Seychelles were both in France's Peter Pan costume group. Monaco refers to Seychelles as "Seychelles-kun" in the original Japanese, implying a friendly relationship or that Monaco is a sort of senior to Seychelles. (In Japan, the honorific -kun is typically for male children and teenagers, but can be also be used between close friends or family members and between seniors and juniors, regardless of gender.)

Spain
Main Article: Spain

Monaco was originally under Spain's protection, however he meddled in her affairs quite often.

Appearances
Manga
Monaco first appeared within Himaruya's blog and a profile of her was included in a special booklet released with the limited edition volume 3 of the published manga. Since then, she has appeared in a redrawn strip alongside France. Monaco made a cameo in the Christmas 2010 event and later returns in the Christmas 2011 event.

Trivia
*In the original America and England story, France was depicted beside an unidentified man (or nation). While the published version replaced the man with Monaco, the anime adapted the original webcomic strip featuring the unnamed man.
*Her birthday corresponds with the date that Monaco first gained its independence from Genoa.
*Monaco cat, made her debut in Volume 3, requesting that the consumption of endangered bluefin tuna cease, much to Japan cat's dismay.
*In an effort to clarify Monaco's speech pattern, Himaruya provided a drawing of a laughing older man and explained "you get Miss Monaco's tone if you think about the things this old man seems to talk about."

Belgium is a tall woman who has short, slightly curly, "pretty," blonde hair, held back with a ribbon (alternatively green or red, but also sometimes seen as being black) and green, almond-shaped eyes. Her lips are often curled in the shape of a cat's mouth. Belgium is a very busty woman whose features are said to stand out, however she dresses simply and her clothes aren't very conspicuous.

In her profile sketch by Hidekaz Himaruya, she is shown wearing a military uniform like most of the other characters, but it has varied in appearances in the various illustrations that exist of it: In an early-full body picture, she was shown to wear gloves, her boots were high-heeled with visible laces, and her tie had an elaborate black design. In a super-deformed character sketch, her boots were simplified (with the heels and laces removed), and her tie was changed to a neckbow. However, in a later chibi design, the neckbow was changed back to a tie (with a somewhat different design than before) and her pants became breeches. The uniform's color remained unknown for some time as well, until an illustration in Comic Birz revealed it to be khaki. In the "Meeting Of The World" segment of both the published manga and anime, she wears an aqua dress and lavender bolero (with a matching lavender headband).

In earlier-drawn sketches, Belgium was shown in a traditional European dress and wore a slightly different headband (with longer ribbon tails). Though her official hair color is blonde, several chibi headshots depicted her with a shade of brown hair. As a result, a fan asked for confirmation of her hair color, to which Himaruya referred to the color chart.

In a Christmas 2011 strip it was shown that, as a child, Belgium wore her bow on the back of her head and a long-sleeved dress with frilled collar and a ribbon tie on it.

Personality and Interests
Belgium is Netherlands' and Luxembourg's sister, though it's said that they often push her around. Earlier notes describe her as a tsukkomi ("straight man") type. According to the character chart, she speaks in a Shiga dialect. Volume 3 stated that she was cheerful and good-natured, but a bit nosy. However, when angered, she's scary. The profile page cited her as "a diligent, kind, meddlesome and friendly older sister!" She also "loves gourmet and tasty snacks!" Her home is famous for its waffles, and her gourmet tastes may be part of the reason that she finds foreign waffles to taste unpleasant. Another thing her house was noted to be famous for was the Manneken Pis.

For Halloween Belgium dressed as Little Red Riding Hood. She used it as an opportunity to briefly advertise a real-life Belgian horror game, The Path, based on the story of Little Red Riding Hood. It was said that, as a child, she was even better at business than her brother, so it's possible she's simply retained some of those business skills.

During the Christmas invasion of the Parallel nations, Belgium ran into one of the shadows at her house. Ignoring or not noticing the strange aura that they seem to radiate, she instead felt concern that he was naked in the middle of the winter, worried something horrible must have happened to him. Even though he was about to attack her, she showed him compassion and showed her sisterly traits in removing and giving him her scarf, startling him out of attacking her. She said that, even though his heart may have been cold because of whatever happened, he had to warm his body. She said that he could keep the scarf as a Christmas present and told him to go home, warm up, and get some rest, before taking her leave.

In Volume 4, Belgium said that her brother was handsome and tall, and that she thought he was cool. However, his stinginess with money was the only thing she saw as a flaw in his personality. When Netherlands bought herring from Lithuania and Poland, he used cheap salt to pickle it and sell it at a higher price. Both then and when he sold his own weapons to Spain, whom he was fighting against, after saying "money makes the world go round" Belgium was seen around the corner, crying, telling him not to be mean. According to Belgium, Netherlands reads romantic poems. When they saw Santa, she asked if he thought he would be willing to visit them. He said that he didn't mind asking and promised to bring her Santa. Some time later he gave her a sheet of paper that said "I'll bring you a real Santa today." She was excited that he kept his promise, however both she and Romano were startled when he showed up, dressed as a reindeer, carrying Spain dressed as Santa(the joke being that the Netherlands' and Belgium's Santa comes from Spain.) Though she had been happily telling Romano that her brother wasn't such a miser because he was going to do that for her, it said at the bottom of the page that he had invested 0 euros in it.

Netherlands' rabbit, in a conversation with Pochi-kun, said that, before Netherlands left for Japan, he'd had a fight with Belgium. As a result, he felt lonely, and thus was being a busybody, likely to keep his mind off of it.

During Christmas, a comic of Belgium and Netherlands as children was requested. Netherlands immediately made an agitated face before the video started. Belgium visited Netherlands who was, at the time, without an influential leader or much of a wealth difference among his people, in contrast to Belgium who was richer than he was. She invited him over and, when he came, she told him to take it easy. He was startled and impressed by her luxurious lifestyle, gaping throughout the trip, especially when they were eating, presented with something he considered a high class meal. She then expressed concern at that he wasn't eating. A shot of them both as adults had Belgium worrying that she was at fault for her brother's stinginess, however Netherlands insisted that he'd always been that way.

South Italy (Romano)
Main article: South Italy

As a child, South Italy had a crush on the older Belgium. She found him cute and, as he showed off his ability to ask for a kiss in Spanish while tugging on her dress, she offered to give him a kiss on the cheek. He became flustered, stumbled over his words, and said he was actually fine, to which Belgium said he was quite innocent and apologized for teasing, offering sweets as compensation. She was depicted as serving young Romano when he was demanding food from Spain in his diary, seeming to find his demandingness amusing. In Boss CD, when they make churros, Romano says that he will get 80% of them, while Spain and Belgium get 10% each. He also gets incredibly flustered and tongue-tied when Belgium praises him for his hard work, even getting flustered to the point of meekness and admitting he hadn't worked much at all. Young Romano would refer to her by name and also said nyarome, possibly a cute version of yamero, Japanese for "you bastard" and other such things, something Romano calls everyone. However, he was said to have been taught by men, hence why he was using such a rude term. However, she wasn't bothered and found him cute nonetheless.

Spain
Main article: Spain

Belgium and Spain seem to get along well, in contrast to his and Netherlands' relationship. When Netherlands left to be independent, it's said that she stayed with Spain and even fought against Netherlands alongside him. While she was his territory, she lived as a maid at his house. It was noted that Spain built museums and art galleries in countries it controlled, and Spain and Belgium were shown holding and admiring canvases. Furthermore, when Spain put a large portion of his money into getting Romano nice clothes, she worried over him, saying that he had to do something about his own clothes, as well, which had become tattered. In the Boss CD, Spain helps Belgium with laundry and with Romano. (Nakamura is the same seiyuu for Belgium in the Boss CD.) The Episode adapts segments from the version of Boss Spain and Chibiromano seen in the third published volume.

Belgium made her first speaking appearance in Episode 94, talking to chibi Romano, Spain, and briefly to Netherlands.

Trivia
*In notes included in the special booklet for Hetalia: Axis Powers volume 3, Himaruya revealed that he initially drew a Belgium without any facial features in order to imagine what her look and personality would be. He later decided on a friendly-type of girl. She also originally had no ribbon, though Himaruya noted that the design would have been innovative as it is rare for his female characters to lack hair accessories.
*In an annotation in Netherlands and Japan’s Isolation, it is stated that Belgium was a farming nation during the time the United Kingdom of the Netherlands was established and began to industrialize in 1798.
*Belgium's Cat Festival is a festival only celebrated in Ypres, its official name is Kattenstoet (Dutch for Cat Parade) and originates from the cloth trade. When Monks created the Belgian coast to gain more land, the new land was infertile and salty, only grass would grow and afterwards farmers and villagers would keep sheep on these lands to fertilize them. The large amount of wool was then woven into cloth which made the County of Flanders really prosperous. The Flemish cities built cloth halls to stock and trade the cloth, but they faced one problem- there were mice. These little creatures were attracted to the warmth of the cloth and also liked the taste of it. To solve this problem, the city put many, many cats in the Hall to protect the cloth, and when summer ended, trade came to a stop and there was hardly anyone who actually wanted to keep all the animals alive, nor was there were any means to. Since farmers had to kill almost all their cattle (which were taking up space), and there was still no food for them, the solution was to kill the cats. They also wanted to celebrate the good trading year so they decided to combine both of them. The feast would be about cats and in the end, all the cats would be thrown from the tower of the Belfry. In 1817 they made an ethical adaptation: they stopped throwing living cats down.
*Belgium has her first speaking role in Episode 94 when she meets with Spain and Romano.
*In a 2010 blog post, Himaruya had stated fan suggested options for her name, including Laura, Emma, Anri, and Manon. No possible surname was given.

Appearance
China has dark hair tied back into a ponytail and is often shown wearing a green Chinese military uniform with a red armband with a white star on it. The shade of green varies; however it's generally deep green, though it was once colored tan. In other instances, he wears a green mandarin jacket with yellow pants, or a red one with white pants (as shown in the Hetalia trading card game). Seeing him "will make you say he's an old man or a hermit or something" though he looks young.

He has a scar on his back, having been attacked by Japan when they were younger, and a panda-shaped birthmark above his buttocks.

Over time, Himaruya said that China's design changed the least, though his bangs may have changed in volume a little. Himaruya's said that he's easier to draw than other characters, with a different easiness than England. He's also added that his expressions are easy to change.

Personality and Interests
Apparently one of the oldest nations, China lives through a tough life surrounded by mysterious things. He happens to be extremely superstitious, but not at all religious. He loves good luck and fortune. China tries to act as an older brother to the other Asian nations, but fails to be treated as one. He's also said to have many disciples, said to be his provinces, but no authority over them, either. When they begin to fight and refuse to work together, he doesn't try to reconcile them. Somewhat like America, he likes to be in charge and have what he wants. He tends to end his sentences with the sound "-aru" (a Japanese stereotype of Chinese accents), though sometimes he ends them with "-ahen" (opium) when conversing with England. He has a companion named "Shinatty-chan", an old man in a Hello Kitty knockoff costume.

China is shown to be a lover of cuisine, even being part of the Gourmet Food Club with France and Turkey in the Gakuen Hetalia strips, and is said to nag if food has a certain pattern of tastes. He's said to hate losing and be patronizing, and he's only recently completely changed his halfhearted ways and begun to put serious effort into everything. He has a lot of mysterious, "secret" medicines at his house, though he's not sure of what their ingredients are, and tries to sell them to nations he feels are in need of them. Even in Hetalia Fantasia he's shown to be a decent businessman, though he doesn't have any problem with taking advantage of customers such as Prussia when he sold him a panda that he claimed would make him happy as a prank on April Fools.

China appears to have a love of cute things, particularly cartoon characters, Hello Kitty, and pandas, and he is frequently seen carrying one. He is also very artistic, as he is skilled at not only painting beautiful human beings full-scale, but also on something as small as a strand of hair (as seen in a strip in the web-comic); his artistic abilities don't, however, apply across the board, as his anime art is quite poor compared to Japan's and Korea's.

Overall he appears to be a cheerful character, though he can occasionally slip into moments of melancholy when reflecting on how much the world has changed over his long life. He's also been shown to be easily annoyed and prone to snapping, particularly when it comes to Korea.

In the Hetalia Fantasia CD he said that he, like all Chinese people, isn't one to waste a second of time. According to Russia, however, he often takes naps in the sun in his garden, does "some weird dance" (which China later clarified to have been tai chi) in the morning, and he himself said that he would sleep and eat all day on a holiday. In addition, he said that his specialty was online games. He also seems fairly gullible, as he said that, with the money he was earning, he would buy some products off of one of America's "promotional things".

Little has been revealed about their relationship. Hong Kong was raised by China before he became British territory. The two were eventually reunited when England's control ceased. In The Summary of the Plot until Now, China is seen telling Hong Kong to stop drawing explicit art, saying that he will have to mosaic it all out. Hong Kong replies, "I'm kinda sorry. And I won't do it again. Maybe." Also, Hong Kong refers China as teacher (sensei).

Japan
Main Article: Japan

After discovering the new nation (who appeared to be a child all on his own), China took him in and raised him as a younger brother, though Japan denied being related to him when asked about it. Japan eventually wound up betraying China when he decided to initiate a war, and attacked him with a katana (leaving a scar on his back). Since that war, the two remained on opposing sides as enemies, and China became distressed as to how war changed his "brother".

Korea
Main Article: Korea

China is constantly annoyed by Korea's claims that he invented others' work, and his claim that both him and Japan should consider him to be their older brother. Korea also happens to have an obsession with China, wanting to be acknowledged by him. He also once showed the belief that China's breasts belonged to him like Japan's.

Russia
Main Article: Russia

Despite the close relationship the two have had throughout their history, China is very suspicious and fearful of his northern neighbor, especially after the Sino-Soviet Split. In return, Russia has been shown to stalk China, especially when disguised in a panda suit.

Taiwan
Main Article: Taiwan

Little has been revealed about their relationship. In Asian and Western Festivals, Taiwan, like Hong Kong, refers to China as 'teacher.' However, she also talks back to him frequently and does not mind his bossiness.

Appearances
Anime
China first appears in Episode 01, at the world meeting. As the others argue, he attempts to break up the fight by offering them snacks (that they refuse).

China's raising of Japan is spotlighted in Episode 16, which details their past history, though the betrayal aspect was left out of the anime adaptation.

Though his hair tends to be colored black in most artwork for the manga, China's character design in the anime gives him ash brown hair, as well as adding haircurls to his ponytail.

Trivia
*In his earliest webcomic profile, China was represented by the Guomindang flag of China. In his profiles from 2007 and on, Hidekaz Himaruya quickly switched the flag out for the People's Republic Of China one. However, the historically accurate flag for the WWII-set strips would be the flag for the Republic Of China (later used for Taiwan).
*His original birthday (October 10th) corresponded with the date of formation of the Republic Of China. However, in later profiles, his birthday was stated as "Unknown". In a Chinese printing of volume 2, his birthday is given as October 1st (the formation of the People's Republic Of China), though the same printing is controversial for changing Taiwan's profile to state that she is a "part of China" (the stance that both Republics of China take).
*He is immortal, which explains his great age of 4000 years. Some Chinese fans will modify his age to 5000, as it is considered to be a more accurate age for "China". This was mentioned in a volume 5 strip, stating that he is 4000 but some say 5000.
*A rejected design for China showed that Himaruya originally considered having him wear glasses. One version of this early design appears in a scan of a notebook page featuring it along with an early male Korea and a Thailand. In the design, China also wears his hair down. A second doodle of the rejected concept would later appear in the special edition booklet for volume 3, where he was depicted with short hair and the glasses. In notes, Himaruya wrote that the character was originally supposed to be calmer and cruel, as well as appearing to be older, however he decided to make him cuter after meeting many Chinese people in his school and neighborhood, though he noted that many mistake him for a girl now.
*In volume 4 it was revealed that he is a member of the Academy Gourmet Food Club along with France and Turkey. In the same scene of this colored chapter, a graphic hue edit or lighting error used to accentuate the punchline of this scene accidentally discolored these three characters' uniform pants to an odd shade of green, opening a door for some fan confusion.
*At the request of a fan("why doesn't China cut his hair" in a suggesting manner,) Himaruya once drew China with short hair. In the drawing, he was given a small ahoge like America's, and also appeared to wear his bomber jacket. China appeared to be somewhat uncomfortable.

Although he hasn't been given any specific numbers, he is shown to be the third tallest among the Nordics in official artwork. Himaruya designed him as a mysterious character because of his love for Norwegian fairytales. He is often shown to have a troll or fairy with him, and has the ability to see and interact with various supernatural creatures. In Hetalia Fantasia 2 , while questing with Denmark and crossing paths with Germany and Japan, it was stated that he is painfully shy around strangers as he resolved to leave upon seeing them, however moments after this suggestion Norway did a generous amount of speaking, complaining and whining to said pair, demonstrating the absence of his previously assigned social discomfort. This contradictory scene may have been constructed solely for comedic purposes, however it leaves the impression that Norway is the type to recruit himself sympathy at the expense of Denmark. Mr. Puffin referred to him as a "snarky guy."

Relationships
Denmark
They have known each other since childhood, but while Denmark considers the two of them to be like best friends and believes that Norway thinks the same way he does, he is unaware of Norway's blunt teasing.

England
Main article: England

In the Hetalia Bloodbath 2011, Norway and England briefly bonded over their shared ability to see magical creatures. America, watching them, stated "England has a new weird friend."

Iceland
Main article: Iceland

Norway feels strongly for Iceland, whom he sees as a younger brother to him and as being very important. In return, it is said that Iceland considers Norway to be the home where his heart truly is. It was later revealed that Norway and Iceland are indeed "biological" brothers due to Iceland having been discovered by Norwegians, though Iceland became irritated at Norway's insistence to refer to him as a big brother ("onii-chan").

Appearances
Anime
Norway made his anime debut in Episode 79, which adapts To Create Better Products in Northern Europe. He appears only to observe that while the dolls Finland and Sweden made were fine, the salesman (Denmark) was too loud and annoying. He is voiced by Masami Iwasaki.

His appearance remains largely unchanged, though one scanned official anime picture featuring the Nordic 5 (in their uniforms) showed that the necktie of his sailor top had a slight extension to it.

Trivia
*It was rumored that Norway would appear in the first season of the Hetalia anime, and that he would be voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro. But the news "announcement," which also claimed that Denmark and Iceland would appear, turned out to be a hoax. Despite this, some websites still circulate the false seiyū information. Norway is now officially played by Masami Iwasaki in the second season (and fourth season overall) of Hetalia: World Series.
*The volume 4 omake revealed that Norway's curl represented the Fjords. Prior to this, Himaruya had not mentioned what the curl was, however he did say that Norway seemed like a whimsical character, and therefore had a floating curl.
*In a 2010 blog post, Himaruya has stated possible names for Norway, including Lukas Bondevik, Børre Thomassen, Bjørn, Kjetil, Knut, and Sigurd. Bondevik and Thomassen seem to be his potential surnames.

Romania (ルーマニア, Rūmania) is a supporting character in the series Hetalia: Axis Powers.
Attributes
Appearance
Romania has shaggy light brown or strawberry blond hair, and wears a small pearl-like earring on his left ear in some illustrations. He has red eyes and a small fang on the left side of his mouth. In his first appearance, he is shown wearing a small top hat with two ribbons coming off of it (one red and one yellow), and was later shown wearing a large trench coat. A series of chibis show green, black, red, and purple color scheme variations of the hat and coat, Himaruya commenting that deciding on the exact color of the outfit was difficult.

Personality and Interests
He is described as friendly, cheerful, and a bit mischievous, but also as carelessly eccentric. He has a strong belief in black magic and loves folklore. Fairy tale princesses, specifically the tale of Ileana Cosânzeana, bring out Romania's romantic side. Character notes reveal that his strong points are good luck charms and magic. He isn't always aware of how aspects of his history or culture may affect others, as he doesn't seem to notice when he disturbs Bulgaria with some of his stories.

Relationships
Bulgaria
Main Article: Bulgaria

Romania and Bulgaria were friends with Russia and bonded during that time. Romania immediately takes to Bulgaria's suggestion that they should sing (about Russia) to pass the time whilst they work, and later talked in an animated fashion to Bulgaria about some of his history and mythos. They join the European Union around the same time and are shown hanging out together during recent Halloween and Christmas events.

Hungary
Main Article: Hungary

In Hungary's bio and relationship chart, their relationship is described like the one between cats and dogs, and Hungary names dogs after Romania as an insult. It is further elaborated that they fight a lot and can't stand each other at all, and as a result Hungarians appear extremely often in Romanian jokes. During the Christmas 2011 site event, they are hostile towards one another, yet make everyone else nervous when they don't immediately start arguing.

Japan
Main Article: Japan

Japan and Romania met one another at America's Halloween party in the Halloween event of 2011. Their costumes' wings became entangled, and they talked before Italy and Germany showed up. Italy was surprised that Japan, who looked a bit shaken, was speaking to Romania. Himaruya mentioned that, with them both having wings, they match.

Moldova
Main Article: Moldova

Romania is Moldova's older brother. During the 2011 Christmas event, Romania asks Germany to send his regards to him.

Appearances
Manga
Romania first appears in the volume 4 Gakuen Hetalia strip Carry On, Newspaper Club! as a member of the school's Magic Club alongside England, revealing that their activities primarily consist of dressing up like Harry Potter, performing love spells, and praying for an abundant harvest.
Anime
Romania appeared in the Animate trailer for Hetalia: A Beautiful World in a shot of the anime adaption of the Advance! Newspaper Club! strips. Later he was shown in the Magic club along with England, where he revealed the activities of the club after Germany broke the spoon he was instructed by England to bend.

Trivia
*In volume 3, Romania is referenced briefly via mentions of the predecessor states Wallachia and Moldavia on a map in a story having to do with eastern Europe. Wallachia is also mentioned by Hungary in a rundown of her enemies, however he was only displayed as a cloaked figure. That Romania is Wallachia is confirmed with Romania having said that Vlad The Impaler was one of his bosses. However, if Moldavia is Moldova is uncertain.
*In volume 4, Romania is revealed to be a member of the Hetalia Academy magic club along with England.
*During Halloween 2011 comic strip Romania wears a costume with two bat wings. He accidentally entangles his wings with Bulgaria's angel wings, as well as Japan's tengu wings.
