In the Hetalia universe, '''Mochi''' (also known as "Blobs") are strange, sentient creatures which somewhat resemble the nations in both appearance and sometimes personality.

They are apparently from the country they represent, as they speak their natives languages and can pop up their respective flags from their body. However, they can be found abroad and easily bought online.

Their anatomy (as they are basically Japanese pastry) is very simple. Most are white and round, as well as being very soft, flexible, and expandable. Each one has different signature abilities. Eating one will result in it taking over you.

The mochi do not appear in the linear story of Hetalia. They instead have their own spin-off series of strips (similar to ''Nekotalia'') called ''Omochi'' and ''Otayuke'', [[Estonia]] being the only nation featured (as he owns some of them). They have also appeared in some events, but they are mainly mascots for the Kitayume site.

==Known Mochis==
===America===
Mochi!America is the main mochi and the first one to appear. He has brilliant blue eyes and lines resembling glasses under them. Fans often depicts him with an ahoge, but in the blog he is never shown with one. He is described as crazy (maybe a reference to [[America]]'s hyperactivity, but the mochi is clearly much more demented), but with no malice. Like his nation self, he has an enormous love for strong tastes, and if neglected, he'll grow to become obese. He is also prone to insult with profane words. He suddenly appeared in Estonia's house one day, and Estonia started raising him. He seems to be competitive and annoying towards other mochi, as he considers Mochi!Italy a "pig", Mochi!Canada "hairy" and Mochi!England "gay". His level of insanity goes to the extent to believe that a lettuce can talk, that it is his father, and that together they will destroy the world. But in the end, the lettuce was eaten by Mochi!Canada, much to Mochi!America's horror.

According to Himaruya, He's extremely peculiar and he always responds with "It's Okey, I'm an American" to everything, even while doing ver dangerous things. He often troubles with the police.

When Latvia met him, he found him cute, something Estonia said was rare. When he tried to pet him, Mochi!America fled, apparently having stranger anxiety.

He has the ability to grow anything he desires from his body, such as hands, legs, wings, and robotic arms, and can also produce American flags from his body. He can also shapeshift, shown when he changed size and grew four legs so that Estonia could ride on him.

He loves sweets and can be tamed and befriended by giving them to him. He's also easily befriended through use of other foods, though the only given example was steak. When being given donuts, a stick was used, so it's possible he's rather harmful when eating.

He has also shown the ability to evolve into a angelic, big-eyed, winged form that seems to speak politely but is actually hostile. In this form, he can travel to the Mochi World, and move others(mochi and otherwise) back and forth through it.

He is the third hardest Mochi.

This particular mochi is a main mascot in the Kitayume site and the Bamboo Thicket blog.

===Belarus===
According to Himaruya, she is a mochi who has pieces of meat stuck to her's.

===Cameroon===
Mochi!Cameroon is a mochi who loves football, but hates the football ball.

===Canada===
Mochi!Canada is the third mochi owned by Estonia and, like Mochi!Italy, was bought online (he was even cheaper: $1.50). He is plump with big blue eyes with glasses lines under them and Canada's ahoge. He also carries a bag in the shape of a polar bear head with him. Like his counterpart, he is shy, but hysteric. It's said that he disappears easily, causing Estonia not to want to take him to America's party. When it was mentioned he looked like Mochi!America, he freaked out confirming his nationality and then cried. He has a fondness for pancakes with maple syrup. He is also sometimes forgotten about by Mochi!America. He is the second softest mochi, second only to Mochi!Italy. Himaruya said that, someday, he'll save the world.

===England===
Mochi!England is a mochi brought to Estonia by his owner, an old English gentleman, to meet his fellow mochi. He is a snobby, spoiled, and "tsundere" blob. He has England's thick eyebrows and a small top hat. While Estonia found him extremely clean, his owner claims he was a hooligan. He is constantly annoyed and mocked by Mochi!America in many different ways. He's the fifth softest of the mochi.

===France===
Mochi!France appears to have facial appearance of his counterpart and loves for beauty.

===Italy===
Mochi!Italy is the second mochi to appear. He has squinty eyes with a "ω" shaped mouth and an Italian ahoge. Estonia bought him online for $2 so Mochi!America would not be lonely. Probably the softest, he is slow-moving, easygoing and friendly, and more exquisite with food. Like his counterpart, he is quite cowardly and usually hangs around with Mochi!Germany; he also seems to have talent for prestidigitation.

When Estonia was going to America's Halloween party, he considered taking him, however he was concerned that he would get squished.

===Japan===
Mochi!Japan is, instead of a regular mochi, a Sakuramochi. He is pinkish in colour with a Sakura pattern in his side and has dull black eyes. He also carries a katana around him. He is described as quiet, modest, traditional, mysterious, and able to read the situation. He often brings different sweets with him. He is a bit self-denigrating and has no head for pushy attitudes. He has not appeared in the comics so far, but he has been shown in a blog post, apparently showing a cannibalistic appetite towards Mochi!America (since mochi are Japanese food, and being Japanese himself, he finds them edible). After Canadamochi, he is the softest, making him the third softest mochi.

===Germany===
Instead of being soft and round like a regular mochi, Mochi!Germany is hard(the hardest of all of them) and prismal (this can be a reference to Germany's physical and emotional sturdiness). He seems to be very solid and heavy, as Estonia was concerned he would break his leg. Because of his shape, there's nowhere to grab onto him, so he's difficult to pick up and impossible to stretch, unlike the other mochi. Like his counterpart, he is intimidating, stern, and somewhat shy. He considers his only friend, Mochi!Italy, quite annoying, though he's surprised by his softness. However, in a blog post, Himaruya admitted that he would lose a fight with him just for the sake of allowing him to win, as it's impossible for him to win otherwise. He can only move in a straight line and at a uniform speed.

===Liechtenstein===
Mochi!Liechtenstein lives in the Mochi World. She is a small mochi with big eyes and a ribbon on her side. She has the ability to create stamps out of nothing. Estonia found her cute and wanted to take her home, but he was stopped by her brother, Mochi!Switzerland. Himaruya thought that she was cute.

===Switzerland===
Mochi!Switzerland lives in the Mochi World with his sister, Mochi!Liechtenstein. When Estonia wanted to take Mochi!Liechtenstein, he stared at him, defending his sister.

===Spain===
In the Mochi World, Estonia found him asking for a tomato. As Estonia had one in his pocket, he gave it to Mochi!Spain and Mochi!Spain was very happy. His design is simple, just squinty eyes with a smiley mouth. He usually has a tomato on his side and will get very angry if it is removed. When Estonia decided to take him, King of Ricecake Mochi!America thought it was better for him to take Mochi!Estonia instead. When Estonia started to cry for being compared with the mochi, Mochi!Spain cheered him up, which led Estonia into keeping him. Because of this, King Of Ricecake!Mochimerica beat Mochi Spain up. He doesn't appear to get along with Mochi!America very often. He can get rather angry, if saying "Si, esta bien" but forgets about it as soon as he's slept. Giving him alcohol is apparently dangerous.

===Estonia===
Mochi!Estonia lives in the Mochi World. When encountered, Estonia—despite being told so by Mochi!America—couldn't believe that they were very similar. The American mochi also wanted him to keep his mochi counterpart, but Estonia refused. Mochi!Estonia has small glasses without visible eyes and a tiny laptop-like object. He's said to make even more money than whoever owns him and to be a real go-getter. He can manage to get magically quickly out of the financial crisis.

===Russia===
Mochi!Russia is a cold mochi who lives in Moscow. He has squinty eyes and a prominent nose, and he also wears a scarf. He seems to share Russia's trait of innocently enjoying torturing others, as he does with Mochi!America; moreover, he is rancorous. However, he seems to have a friendly side. He supposedly loves Mochi America so much that could tear him apart. After torturing him, he flung a heart at him which seemed to brainwash him into loving him, which made him very happy. He's the second hardest Mochi.

===China===
Mochi!China appears to be pixelated, because of his appearance, it would anger the American companies. He was hidden by mosaic when he gets out. When his companion is older, he sponges on him, but if he's younger, maybe he'll treat him. He can sell wonderous stuff.

'''Romano's Diary''' (ロマーノにっき ''Romāno nikki'') is the sixth episode of '''''Hetalia: The Beautiful World''''', and the one hundred and sixth overall in the anime series '''''Hetalia'''''. It was broadcast on March 1, 2013. It adapts a portion of the ''[[Volume 4#Romano's Diary|Romano's Diary]]'' chapter from [[Volume 4]] of the published manga, as well as a portion of the unfinished webcomic strip ''Boss Spain Doesn't Understand''.

==Plot Summary==
The episode opens with Romano writing in his diary. He starts out by writing that he is Romano, and says that he was made into the minion of a bad guy named Spain, and that he is forced to work hard every day and night.

===Romano's Diary===
Spain is sleeping soundly in his bed. Romano yells that it's boring and jumps into his stomach, waking Spain up. Spain sits up and smiles, smiling and saying good morning, but Romano yells that he's hungry. The rest of the story is narrated as he writes in his diary. He writes that the foods so terrible that he can't eat. It shows Romano sitting at a table with various foods in front of him as Belgium and the Netherlands stand watching him. When he finishes eating he yells that he's still hungry and Belgium smiles. Spain comes around the corner and says alright. Romano narrates that Spain messed up his room without his permission. It shows Spain sweeping Romano's filthy room and asks him if he can clean his room. Romano says that he better make it squeaky clean. It then shows Romano crawling into bed in a now clean room as Spain walks in and tells Romano that he left his sheets out to dry, but Romano tells him to shut up because he's trying to sleep. Spain smiles and says good night as he closes the door. Romano narrates that it was another horrible day because of Spain.

===I-I-I Didn't Do It!===
Spain wakes up, remarking what a bright morning it is. He says that its strange, because for once he wasn't woken up by Romano's headbutt. He gets out of bed to see Romano dragging his sheet with a stain on it. Spain yells as Romano notices his presence. Romano tries to cover the stain but Spain already seen it. Spain angrily asks if Romano wetted his bed again. Romano angrily denies, saying that a squirrel did it.

At an apothecary, Spain asks the man there if he has some sort of medicine that could cure bed-wetting. The man says no. Romano angrily yells that Spain's wrong , and that they need medicine that stop squirrels from peeing in his bed. The man says that doesn't exist either.

===Mochi Romano and Mochi Spain===
Mochi Romano and Mochi Spain are together. Spanish flags pop out of the side of the Spain Mochi and he yells "¡¡Amuleto para la beuna suerte~!!<ref>''Amulet for good luck~!</ref>Mochi Romano looks away annoyed and scoffed at him, as the Spanish flags retract and a speech bubble appears out of Spains head that says "Oh no~"

* While the episode is titled "Romano's Diary", it only focuses on the first few panels of that chapter, not adapting the part where Romano gets a new outfit or a present-day scene with the adult Romano and Spain.
* The scene where Romano attempts to blame his bedwetting on a squirrel originally came from the Comic Diary 10 collection of the webcomic (reprinted as part of ''Romano's Diary'' in Volume 4), while the later portion of the episode covers "Boss Spain Doesn't Understand", cutting off at the strip titled "The Boss That Can't Read the Atmosphere".
