The katakana under his name is transliterated as "fon vakku". I can understand how "von" would be pronounced "fon" in German, but Estonian being a Finno-Ugric language, would "B" really be pronounced as "V"? Is that how Hidekaz translated it on the website, or is this a mistake? Thatbiologist 00:34, October 21, 2009 (UTC)

  • Well, in most languages that stem from Indo-European, "b" = "v" in sound change, but since Finno-Urgic does NOT, I don't know. You're talking about the "Bock" part, right?
It looks like it's the author mistake here. The "fon" part is correct, by the V = F sound logic.
But I think that, just a theory, the B sound (with a nordic accent) resembles more a V to a Japanese speaker, in this case, that's why it is written "vakku" there, maybe. It better to keep it like this, just not to confuse everyone. Hasu-hime 17:33, October 21, 2009 (UTC)
Also, if it were "fon fakku," well, "fakku" sounds like the f-word. xD
