Denmark/Sweden is a semi-popular fanon slash pairing involving the characters of Denmark and Sweden. The pairing is often referred to as DenSu but DenSwe, SweDen, SuDen, and SweDenmark are also commonly used.
Fan Speculations
Though the two have yet to interact much in the series, portrayals of the pairing are often violent and to a certain degree a one-sided relationship. Fanworks are usually set during or post-Kalmar Union and reference events such as the Stockholm Bloodbath or some of the various wars fought between the two throughout the centuries. Denmark is often depicted as mentally unstable, emotionally and physically abusive (mostly towards Sweden but in rarer cases to Finland and Norway as well), and seeking dominance over Sweden. Denmark is also sometimes depicted as the jealous type over Sweden's desires for Finland though this is quite rare. Sweden is usually portrayed as either resistant and fighting back Denmark's desires or displaying symptoms of Stockholm Syndrome (or in some cases both). Works featuring the roles reversed are extremely rare.
Lighter fanworks are usually set in the modern period and show a much more healthy approach to their relationship such as personal reconciliation between the two in reference to the Øresund Bridge. The two are often depicted with the occasional bickering and arguing but do appear to love and care for each other; both friendship-wise and romance-wise. In fanworks focusing on their romantic relationship, Sweden is shown to have moved on over his feelings for Finland while Denmark's mentality and abusive behavior has been put behind him, though this is true in both cases.
