The pairing of America and Japn based on their angsty past at the end of WW2 and their seemingly close friendship in present times. In the original web comics, America is seen staying over at Kiku's house more than once when he wants to watch a movie, even suggesting at one poit that they sleep togther so that he won't be so scared of the ghosts and monsters in the show. Kiku himself seems rather fond of America, inviting him over to see the sakura blossoms and giving him a new game system for his birthday, making Alfred say that he preferes that gift over Arthur's.
