Hungary (ハンガリー, Hangarī) is a supporting character in the series Hetalia: Axis Powers. In 2008, Himaruya gave human names to some of the characters and she received the name Elizabeta Héderváry (エリザベータ・ヘーデルヴァーリ, Erizabēta Hēderuvāri).

Attributes
Appearance
She has long brown hair and green eyes. Her most common outfit, seen in merchandise and official artwork, is a green military uniform and matching beret. In the actual series, she can usually be seen dressed in a traditional Hungarian folk dress.

The flower she wears in her hair, according to notes by Himaruya, is meant to represent Lake Balaton. It has been alternatively colored pink and yellow in the official artwork, though it is colored orange in the anime adaptation.

Personality and Interests
In her past, Hungary was once a nomadic girl who loved to chase after horses on the plains, and was a rather tomboyish child, to the point where she believed herself to be a boy until hitting puberty. She is described as being both a reliable older sister type and the manliest character in the series, and she also appears to be a fujoshi (literal: "rotten woman," a woman who is a yaoi fan).

She doesn't get along well with Romania, to the point where their relationship is described as being like that of a cat and a dog. It is also said that due to her dislike of Romanians, she would name her dogs after them.

Mongolia is said to have bullied Hungary in her youth, along with the Ottoman Empire.

Relationships
Austria
Main Article: Austria

Hungary's former husband, and close friend, yet the status of their relationship is unknown. Throughout the anime and manga, the two share many moments that suggest that they still have feelings for one another. For example, in the Buon San Valentino strips, Hungary is given a gift from an anonymous source, but when described the man has many of the same facial features that Austria has. In the anime, she seems to enjoy hearing him play his piano, close to his side. Also, Hungary became worried when Germany went to annex Austria, asking him to "please consider his feelings." As children, Austria was often beaten up and defeated by Hungary when it came to wars, but when they got older, she became his servant while they were both under the rule of the Holy Roman Empire.

Italy
Main Article: Italy

When they were both under Austria's rule, she and Italy were very close and she saw herself as his older sister figure. Apparently, she was one of the few characters who knew his true gender at that time.

Prussia
Main Article: Prussia

She and Prussia were rivals as children. Prussia and Hungary herself both believed Hungary to be male until Hungary revealed that she had no penis, thinking it would grow in later. She continued to believe she was male some time until she reached puberty; it was through a meeting with Prussia that she came to accept herself as female. Shortly after this event she suddenly calmed down, began to wear dresses and hung around Austria, much to Prussia's disliking. Since he made fun of her problems during their younger years, Hungary is seen to now dislike him and often hits him with her frying pan whenever she sees the opportunity to.

Romania
Main Article: Romania

As displayed in her bio, Hungary and Romania's relationships resemble a cat and dog one's. They could be referred to as 'rivals', as they're always seen making fun of each other, and especially Hungary insulting Romania and calling dogs after him. This was confirmed in the 2011 Chrsitmas event when they reunited. They were shown making angry faces to each other.

Ukraine and Liechtenstein
Main Article: Ukraine, Liechtenstein

The three of them seem to be good friends. In Volume 4's "A History of Interesting Clothes", they had a friendly chat about the dressing costumes in their countries. They even refer themselves using nicknames rather than their full names.

Appearances
Anime
A younger Hungary first appears in Episode 10, in the Chibitalia sub-storyline. Having found that she happens to be in a similar situation to the child (as a servant to Austria), she spends time with him and dresses him up in her old clothes. She is shown to be interested in Austria and concerned with how the villagers have been heckling him.

The adult Hungary officially appears in Episode 59, receiving a message from God to hit France with her frying pan.

Trivia
*In older archived notes by Hidekaz Himaruya (circa 2007), it is mentioned that he originally considered making a male Hungary character, who was supposed to be a crossdresser. In the end, he decided to make Hungary the first female character of the series while Poland (who was originally planned to be female) became a cross-dressing male instead. The male version of Hungary was later used as the basis for Lithuania's design. Himaruya also initially thought of making a female Hungary who was more snide and "witchy," describing her as hot-tempered to the point where she would shoot people with arrows if they thought she was a guy.
*In later notes that were compiled in the special booklet for Hetalia: Axis Powers volume 3, Himaruya revealed that a Hungary character actually was the first nation in the design department, as the witchy woman idea was recycled from a Hungarian witch character in a scrapped "hero in New York" series that would be replaced by the idea of Hetalia.
*A blog entry by Himaruya revealed that Hungary has an ancestor, known only as Magyar, but he has not been mentioned or visually depicted in the actual series. In the screenplay for Gakuen Hetalia, her ancestor is referred to as Hun.
*Though her birthday has not been revealed yet, her "Wedding Day" corresponds with the date of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise.
*In the official English translation from Tokyopop and in the official subtitles from FUNimation, her catch phrase "Give back the vital regions" was changed to "Give me back my happy place!"

Attributes
Appearance
France has shoulder-length blond hair and blue eyes, and has a slight amount of facial hair which he believes makes him look like a "big brother" (it is said to represent the Gorges du Tarn, or Tarn Gorges) that he'd been growing since the late 18th century. He wears a long blue coat and matching capelet, with red pants and brown boots. He is often depicted with a rose, which is also used to censor his genitals in his nude scenes.

When France initially appeared in the webcomic, his hair was drawn shorter and less wavy, but was drawn longer over time as the art style changed and evolved. He also originally wore white spats over his boots, a detail that was dropped in later artwork.

Personality and Interests
France was once a large nation, but after Napoleon Bonaparte had died, he was no longer good in wars and instead attracted tourists to his country with his wine. He has an intense rivalry with England, and loves to argue with him over trivial topics (one example is arguing over "who is more perverted"). His hobbies are manipulation activities, agriculture, fashion design, sketching, singing, and telephones, as well as wandering around the art museums and fashion boutiques of Paris. He likes places that are a little odd or chic.

France is infatuated with most of the nations and is known to make blatant sexual comments at every opportunity and is very affectionate, often shown streaking or touching other nations inappropriately. He is attracted to beautiful things, which include men and women of any age (supported by statements such as "Sure, I'll settle for boys! Boys are the best!" and "This onii-san here loves pure and innocent children like you." in response to a fan not knowing the meaning of the term "tachi") and maybe even some non-human beings. He said "be gentle to the ladies and be gentle to the earth" is his motto. He's admitted to being "the dandiest among the dandies." He loves himself so much that he does not bother to remember English and considers French the "language of love." In addition, he has referred to the others as insignificant characters.

He likes men who have exquisite bodies and give him a good impression, and has no preference in their personalities, so long as they are not like England. He said he would like cool but passionate women, and might latch on best to someone who is good at singing. He also mentioned, in response to that the French supposedly fall in love due to other's body odors, that a faint, flowery scent could have him curled up in pleasure.

He stated that he's afraid of computers, Germany (and that he supposedly hates Germans in general, despite that he seems to get along with both brothers as of recent), Russia, Switzerland, whenever England is angry, and possibly Turkey. He stated this through a response to a fan, thus over the computer, and that doing so was bad enough for him. It seems that gardening relaxes him, and that he isn't intimidated by other technologies, as he claimed to be playing Bokosuka, a video game, with Germany and England. In response to another fan suggesting their lack of will to stand near him because of his overbearing scent, he stated that he only wore a little perfume.

He's referenced his old age several times, saying things like how his waist is always creaking, his back hurts, and that he had to surrender to sleep early in the day. Despite this, he gets upset when said that he's a grandpa as opposed to a big brother, and claims he is still young.

According to Volume 4, he holds the belief that those who have been "toyed with by history" are always reborn, but into a normal life and get to live regular, happy lives. He felt this was confirmed when he met a girl named Lisa who had come to France for her birthday whom he believed to be the reincarnation of Joan of Arc.

Relationships
America
Main Article: America

France fought over his rival England for ownership of a baby America. Despite losing the battle, it seems that France has nothing against him, seeming to treat America like a younger brother at times.
When America went on a diet in Supersize You, he asked France for a suggestion, however, whatever was said was censored out; later in the Hetalia Fantasia 2 C.D., France feels remorse for telling America that a snack diet was a great way to lose weight. This comes after he stumbles into a dungeon area he believes America based off of the Palace of Versailles, and he becomes very emotional. After alot of hard work on his part, France presented America with a dismembered Statue of Liberty, celebrating America's 100th year of official independence. In Independence Day, France's gift was a censored object along with champagne, to which America asked him not to show such things in public.
France has offered to feed America his food instead of England's cooking multiple times, once becoming very depressed when a young America stated that both France's and England's cooking were "sweet and tasty". In the strip America's Brewster F2A Buffalo France refuses to offer a depressed America a drink after he has a horrible day, stating that he is still a child.

Austria
Main Article: Austria

Not much is known about these two's relationship, although in Big Brother France And The Frying Pan! France is seen outside Austria's window, ranting about how much he desires him, and talking about how good looking and talented Austria is. The Christmas Rampage 2007 strips show France tricking Austria into stripping down in order to get Hungary a hat, yet this may have only been to make Prussia feel better. In A Kind of Aristocratic Comic, photos from France's camera revealed France had been stalking Austria (although France claimed that England had made him do espionage, this is probably a lie, as he had been taking seemingly useless photos of Austria). In The Austrian Anschluss it is explained that France's and Austria's relationship was abyssmal at the time of Austria's annexation, and that Austria had been at about every anti-France alliance held.

England/UK/Britain
Main Article: England

Despite both being members of the Allied forces, England and France have a deep-rooted historical rivalry between them. While they can be seen to constantly argue with each other over the littlest things (like language and culture), they appear to have a level of respect for each other and are quick to team up with each other if a third party should enter the argument. France even tried to marry England to save his country once, though neither of them really wanted it. In strips focusing on England's childhood, he is often shown being picked on by a pre-teen France, who on one occassion, scoffs at him for not growing his hair long - and when England's long hair turns out a mess, France teases him by saying he'll cut it into a "cool" style - by cutting it back to the style he had before. In Crossing Through the Year 1000, the two younger countries are fooled into believing that the world will soon be over, and England agrees to let France pretend to have conquered him, since it is only for a little while. They later reminisce about their childhood when Japan makes the same mistake.

Germany
Main Article: Germany

The state of their relationship depends on the specified time period however, generally, like England, Germany and France have a history of being one another's enemies, and as such the two don't seem to get along. In Let's Think About The G8 members, when Germany suggested France be removed from the group, he argued that they had actually been getting along recently. In Kusogame the two and America went to a maid cafe in Japan together. Both are set in the present day. During his April Fools sitejacking, he seemed to know a fair amount about him, especially that he, like Italy, often ran around naked, thus he needed a different idea of what to do to him as he had been stripping the others (in the end he forced him into a maid cosplay and cat ears.)

Italy
Main Article: Italy

France grew up with a small Chibitalia, but after Chibitalia returned from spending time with Roman Empire, France only wanted to control him. Italy refers to France as "France nii-chan" in strips set in both the past and present. Once Italy had grown into a teenager, he visited France again, resulting in the older man suddenly becoming enthusiastically attracted to him. During the visit, Italy saw the word "intercourse" in a book and asked him what the definition was. France replied by saying that intercourse is something you do with someone you like, then proceeded to ask "So Italy, do you like me?" (This was changed in the anime to France using body language to express the meaning of intercourse.) France seems to have a soft spot for Italy, becoming frantic when England suggests they spread rumours about Italy and responding with "I know he's kind of dumb, and he's weak and useless, but he's not a bad guy..." He then proceeds to break down in tears, causing England to note that France, while always insulting Germany, never really brings himself to badmouth Italy.

Monaco
Main Article: Monaco

Monaco acts as a younger sister figure to France and is solely dependent on him for military strength, as well as intervention in other affairs. Due to this, Monaco often accepts his various requests.

Seychelles
Main Article: Seychelles

In the Gakuen Hetalia universe, it is revealed (via flashback) that he helped raise her as a child, while in the present day he carries an affection for her and attempts to undress her, much to her shock and embarrassment, apparently to see what her body has become like.

Their relationship in the mainstream Hetalia universe has not been mentioned, outside of France appearing with her in Shipwrecked and an illustration in Christmas Rampage 2007, which depicts him groping Seychelles.

Spain
Main Article: Spain

The two get along rather well, having grown up and fought in wars together, though Spain remains oblivious to France's more perverted tendencies and cannot see why Romano hates him. It is said in production notes by Himaruya that their relationship is actually undesirable, yet the two remain inseparable. Recently, it seems Spain is aware that France is a bad influence on him, calling him "despicable" before defeating him in The Battle of Garigliano with the help of his pet bull. France's first bird named Pierre is used for communication with him.

Appearances
Anime
France first appears at the world meeting in Episode 01, opting to disagree with both America and England in their argument.

After being left out of the second Allied Forces meeting in Episode 10, France reflects on his history of past "victories", insisting that he was successful a long time ago.

Trivia
*His birthdate (July 14th) corresponds with the date of the French national holiday known as Bastille Day, a celebration of the anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille.
*In notes included in the special edition booklet for Hetalia: Axis Powers volume 3, Himaruya stated that France was originally meant to look more middle-aged, and that he was intended to have a completely suave personality. The "older", shorter-haired design could be seen in early chapters of the webcomic, but faded as the style changed.
*Because of England and America's inability to recognize and fear of him, it has been hinted that an abruptly awoken France is not a pleasant sight, and that he may be a sleepwalker.
*France shares both Japanese and English voice actors, Masaya Onosaka and J. Michael Tatum respectively, with Issac Dian, a character from the anime Baccano! He also shares J. Michael Tatum as an English voice actor with Sebastian Michealis from Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler.
*In volume 4 it was revealed that he is a member of the Academy Gourmet Food Club along with Turkey and China. In the same scene of this colored chapter, a graphic hue edit or lighting error used to accentuate the punchline of this scene accidentally discolored these three characters uniform pants to an odd shade of green, opening a door for some fan confusion.

Michael Tatum with Sebastian Michealis from Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler.

Nyotalia

2012-02-20T07:07:10Z

74.61.2.201: /* China */

Nyotalia refers to the genderbent versions of the canon Hetalia characters. Nyotalia is a fandom-made term, started by the Japanese fandom, from the words nyotaika (which refers to male-to-female genderbends) and Italia. Fanmade versions of other characters can often be seen in the tag along with the "canon" ones. In some instances, they are depicted as the characters actually genderbent, though the intention is for them to be completely different incarnations.

It has become common to depict characters as the opposite gender in either fanart or fanfiction (for example, Germany as a female or Hungary as a male). In addition, designs of the opposite gender exist for certain characters, as Hidekaz Himaruya drew them for fun to see what the nations would be like. However, Himaruya also noted that when drawing the characters, he came up with their designs as if they were completely different people (if they were designed as females to begin with). This is presumably why some of them lack certain distinguishing details that their original versions had.

So far, the characters drawn by Himaruya include the Axis, Allies and Asians, Spain, South Italy, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Canada, Sweden, Belgium, Belarus, Ukraine, Wy, Prussia, Austria and Monaco.

Himaruya first drew the initial Axis and Allies designs in 2006, and briefly revisited the concept in 2008 with a few more characters. The characters would get redesigned and re-introduced in 2010 and 2011, along with a cameo in the fourth manga volume.

Although the Japanese fandom have given the characters names and used the surnames from their opposite gender, others are apt to come up with completely new names themselves, both given names and family names.

The Axis
In the Japanese fandom, the female versions of the Axis Powers are often referred to as Nyojiku (from combining nyotaika with suujiku, the Japanese word for the Axis).

Italy
North Italy's female counterpart has her hair tied back into a ponytail, and has a wild curl of hair dangling down at the side of her head. In one sketch, she wears a more feminine version of a military uniform, with a double-breasted jacket and mini skirt. But in a later sketch, she wears a short-sleeved khaki shirt and skirt, with a black tie. Her eyes are depicted in a more amber color than her male counterpart's. Her hair is also curlier and a lighter shade of brown. Himaruya' described her as being an emotional woman who "lives for love". Contrary to the male Italy, it appears that she can display an unusual bout of physical strength when angered as seen in the right. In a later note it is mentioned how her personality is different from her male counterpart. In an illustration of her arguing and switching punches with female England, it is shown that she is the braver one and more willing to fight. She seems to be rougher around the edges or accident-prone, if the bandage on her knee is any indication. In a blog post, Himaruya had mentioned that he liked the name Alice for female Italy, commonly pronounced as "Ah-LEE-che" in Italy, from a list of names he was sent for some of the Nyotalia characters. Though, this name is unofficial as he had stated in another blog update after that.

Itako is a nickname for the female version of Italy, derive from Itaria and the suffix "-ko". Though fans in the Western fandom tend to use the names Felicia or Felice for her, the Japanese fandom has given her the name Daisy Vargas. This name had fallen out of use shortly after Himaruya brought up the suggested name Alice. Alternatively, in a straighter "genderbend" take, Daisy is sometimes used as her middle name, with Feliciana being the first name.

Germany
The female version of Germany does not wear her hair slicked back. In a group sketch, she is shown to wear only a tank top and pants when training, much like the male Germany. Two other sketches depict her wearing uniforms similar to her male counterpart. Each illustration depicts her with a worried or exasperated expression. In his notes, Himaruya described her as being serious like her male counterpart, but with a large chest. In a sketch, Germany was shown to be scolding a bruised male Italy for rashly getting himself into difficult situations. Himaruya had once received a list of name suggestions for some of the Nyotalia characters, mentioning that he had liked the name Monica, the German variant being Monika, for Germany. Himaruya had stated, though, that the name was unofficial in a blog post after that.

Doiko/Dokuko are two names that are used to refer to the female version of Germany by, that derive from Doitsu and the suffix "-ko". The latter is a pun on the kanji for Germany (doku) as well as a pun on the term bokuko (a girl that speaks and acts like a boy). She is also referred to as Nyoitsu, most notably on her Pixiv tag. In both Japanese and Western fandom, fans often use Louise, or Luise, as her human name.

Japan
Japan is depicted as a short girl with a bob hairstyle, and has shine to her eyes unlike her male counterpart (her eyes are also more amber in color). In Himaruya's notes, she is stated to be a Yamato Nadeshiko-type character who has complicated feelings towards America. She is often depicted beside Igiko (the female version of England) and it is hinted the two may be friends. Her fanon name has been given as Honda Sakura (or "Sakura Honda" in Western order). Himaruya had once mentioned that a fan had once suggested for her fanon name to be her official name, but he had also noted that it is not official. He also notes that if he had chosen an official name for Japan, she "would for sure end up with a name like Ponko or Mameko". She is usually not depicted in any sort of military uniform, but rather in a simple kimono or other civilian clothes (such as a school uniform or one for gardening). She seems to always have a shy expression, befitting of one with a Yamato personality.

According to Himaruya, Japan used to have much longer hair in the past. She cut it to its current length after opening up her borders in order to prove she would be able to get along with the rest of the world.

Nichiko and Nihoko are two names used by some of the Japanese fandom for the female Japan, from Nihon (or the kanji nichi) and the suffix "-ko".

The Allies
America
The female version of America does not have glasses or a "Nantucket" hair. She often dresses in short skirts or shorts and wears crop tops, exposing her midriff. In her initial design, she also wore a cowboy hat and boots and had an American flag patch on her top (though some fanartists mistook it for a tattoo on her chest). Her later design depicts her in a bomber jacket like the male America, though she seems to be fond of hot dogs instead of hamburgers. Her weapon of choice appears to be a baseball bat. She has blue eyes and wavy, amber-colored hair that comes to her shoulders. The name used to refer to her in the Japanese fandom is Emily Jones. English-speaking fans however, will opt to use Amelia or a similar name.

Ameriko is a nickname used for the female version of America, deriving from Amerika and the suffix "-ko". The "A" is sometimes left out, leaving her as Meriko (or Merika), or the name shortened to Rika or Meri. She can also be referred to as Nyomerika (from combining nyotai with America).

England
England, however, does have glasses. She no longer has the signature thick eyebrows, and instead wears her hair in long pigtails that are either slightly curled or completely straight. In two colored pictures of her, her hair appears to be the same color as her male counterpart's original hair color. Her eyes are green. This version of the character is called Igiko (girl Britain) by Himaruya and fans alike. Himaruya describes her as being elegant, yet with a punk side. She is often depicted in a British schoolgirl uniform or a maid dress. In a blog post, Himaruya said a fan had suggested for her name to be Rosa, but Himaruya had later stated that it was not her official name.

Igiko is the name used by Himaruya for his female design of England, that has become popular for fans to refer to her by as well. Translated, it means "Girl England". She is also occasionally referred to with the names Eiko (from Eikoku, a Japanese term for the UK) or Nyoigi (nyotaika and Igirisu combined). Igiko was given the human name Alice Kirkland by the Japanese fandom, though English fanworks sometimes refer to her as Elizabeth or Victoria.

France
France's female counterpart is an elegantly-dressed woman with her hair tied back into a french knot. Her hair is dark brown (or alternatively a dirty blonde) and her eyes are violet. She is said to be a snob. The fanon human name given to her is Françoise Bonnefoy. Some fans often choose Marianne or Francine as an alternative name for her as well. Frani is also another nickname.

Russia
Russia is a modestly-dressed woman with long beige-blonde hair. Her first seen picture gave her soft blue eyes while her second appearance gave her lilac colored eyes. Himaruya has described her personality as akin to a wearied mother figure who is emotionally unstable rather than childishly cruel. Her fanon human name is Anya Braginskaya. Anya is a Russian diminutive of Anna. In a blog post, Himaruya said he liked Russia's fanon name, but he had also stated that he was not making it her official name. The first color sketch featuring her depicted her in a blue dress, while a "chibi" picture of her shows her to wear a long pink winter coat. Also, instead of a lead pipe, she is seen with a large shovel and matryoshka dolls.

Kolko is a nickname for the female version of Russia, derived from the suffix "-ko" and "Kol" (from Russia's chant Kolkolkol, in reference to the kolkhoz). She is also sometimes referred to as Roshiko, deriving from Roshia and the suffix "-ko".

China
China usually wears some kind of qipao dress and has her hair, now a deep auburn, tied up in a set of buns. It is said that she is a type of girl whose emotions cannot be read easily. In her first appearance, her dress had short sleeves, but it was changed to a long-sleeved dress by the time she appeared in another illustration. Rather than the wok and ladle her male counterpart uses, China wields cleavers. Her fanon human name is given as Wang Chun-Yan (Chun-Yan Wang in Western order). In a blog post, Himaruya mentioned that he liked her fanon name, but had said in another blog update that it was not her official name.

Nene is a nickname used for the female China, from nee-chan (older sister) and a reverse of a nickname used for her male counterpart (Nini, from nii-chan, older brother).

Other Characters
Austria
The female version of Austria looks similar to her male counterpart though she lacks glasses while her mole is on the opposite side of her mouth. She wears a more feminine version of the uniform worn during the War of Austrian Succession and wears a piece of jewellery that holds back part of her hair. Nyosutoria, from nyotaika/nyotalia and Osutoria (Austria), is a nickname used for fanon female versions of Austria. Anneliese is also another nickname used but within the Western fandom.

Belarus
The male version of Belarus wears a long coat with dark fur trim and has chin-length hair with an ahoge and eyes similar to Netherlands.

Belgium
Belgium has short, flipped-out hair, a cat mouth like his female counterpart and seems to wear a similar uniform.

Canada
The female version of Canada is a young girl with long, slightly curled pigtails. She appears to wear a hooded overcoat with maple leaves printed on the sides, with a jacket and skirt worn underneath it and a beret on her head. She also wears glasses similar to her male counterpart, and has a polar bear named Kumarie (クマリーKumarii), who is said to be more violent and "scarier" than Kumajirou. Himaruya had mentioned in his blog that he had liked the name Maguerite for female Canada, with her nickname being Meg for short. Though, he had stated shortly after the post that the name was unofficial.

Canako is a nickname used for the female version of Canada, deriving from Canada and the suffix "-ko". Some people have also referred to her as Maddie, or Madeline (partly as a reference to the book Madeline, which takes place in France). She can also be referred to as Nyonada, from combining nyotai with Canada.

Hungary
Hungary's male counterpart keeps his hair tied back into a short ponytail. His fan-official name in the Japanese fandom is Daniel Héderváry though Gary (or Gari), a shortened form of his nation name, is sometimes used.

Hong Kong
Korea
Liechtenstein
The male version of Liechtenstein is depicted as a young boy in a long shirt and overalls. In a more recent sketch on Himaruya's blog, he is depicted as wearing a small crown and cape and holding a book of some sort. He is referred to by Japanese fandom as either Hr. Noah Stein, or given his brother's surname of "Zwingli" (making him Hr. Noah Zwingli). "Hr." is the short form of the German and Scandinavian title Herr, an equivalent to the English "Mister".

Rihi-kun and Stein-kun are two nicknames for the genderswapped Liechtenstein. The first comes from Rihiten (the shortening of his name in katakana) and the suffix "-kun", while the second comes from "-stein" and "-kun".

Monaco
The male version of Monaco is a young man with slightly feathered blonde hair. He wears a black vest, a blue striped button-down shirt, and light pants, and is depicted drinking wine.

Prussia
The female version of Prussia is a woman with long, rather wild white hair, which she, according to Himaruya's notes, started growing out from the 18th century onwards. It was even shorter than male Prussia's prior to then. She is shown to have sectoral heterochromia in both eyes; pink on the top and blue on the bottom. She gives the same air of arrogance as her male counterpart. She sports a scar on her left cheek, under her eye. He's stated that she found her sister to be even cuter after meeting her again when they had been separated, further support towards the theory of Prussia being East Germany. She has a wild and strong personality, which covers up her more serious, book-smart, and hard-working personality; she never misses a day of training. Himaruya has stated that he liked the name Julchen for her which, while not actually a name, is more of a nickname for Julia. Also she is called Marie by some. She wears thigh-high boots, a black miniskirt, and a jacket similar to her male counterpart's, however it seems to be either torn or designed differently at the end, and comes to a stop shortly below her skirt. Her bird is given a bow, hinting that it is female.

Long before her official design, Maria was a name used for a fanon female version of Prussia. Her full name was given on Pixiv as Gilbert Maria Beilschmidt (or Maria Gilbert Beilschmidt), with "Maria" originating from St. Maria Order (short for Order of the Teutonic Knights of St. Mary's Hospital in Jerusalem). Since the released of a canon Nyotalia Prussia, Maria still remains popular to use.

Seychelles
Seychelles has short spiky hair and appears to be shirtless. He wears what appears to be a seashell necklace, swim trunks, sandals, and carries a large fish with him.

South Italy
The female version of South Italy, or Italy Romana, is drawn with dark, shoulder-length hair held back by a headband. She wears what appears to be either a ruffly pink top or dress. The fanon name given to her by Japanese fans is Katarina Vargas (which could also be rendered Caterina, a name widely used in southern Italy). Though, Western fandom often opt to call her Lovina instead as it is closer to her male counterpart's name. In a blog update, Himaruya had mentioned that he was sent a list of names for some of the Nyotalia characters, and that he liked the name listed for South Italy, Chiara, commonly pronounced as "Key-ARE-ah" in Italy. Though, Himaruya had also stated in another blog update that her name was not official. In a note about the character, Himaruya said that she is better at fighting than her male counterpart. She was originally designed without her male counterpart's haircurl until it was added back in a 'chibi' sketch in 2010, and is seen to be wearing what appears to be a military uniform with a headband. She is also referred to as "Miss Romana", showing that she might be the type to be respected.

In the official original sketch of her, Himaruya mistakenly used the filename "Romania", leading to brief confusion over whether the design was of female Romano or a Romania (who at the time was not created).

Spain
The female Spain is shown to be a stylish woman with a pinstripe shirt and her hair tied back into a bun. She has two fan-official names in the Japanese fandom: Isabel Fernandez Carriedo and Carmen Hernandez Carriedo. This is due to the fact that Antonio's surname has been given as both Fernandez Carriedo and Hernandez Carriedo, causing much confusion and debate. She is stated to be strong and that Romana is like a daughter to her.

Nyotabun, from nyotaika mixed with oyabun ("boss"), is a nickname used for female Spain.

Sweden
The female version of Sweden is a woman with straight, long hair. Her face is calm and serious and not scary-looking like her male counterpart. She wears glasses and a flat hat upon her head. She wears what appears to be a long flowing coat or dress with either a flower print pattern or lace trim at the bottom. She seems to be armed with a sword.

Taiwan
The male version of Taiwan has short hair and seems to be wearing an overshirt/jacket with the white sun from the flag of the RoC on it. He also seems to carry a bag around. He is seen in two different pictures; one that shows him with a long, wild curl while the latter version does not.

Ukraine
Ukraine as a man looks very much like Russia with a long scarf and a haircut much like his female counterpart.

Vietnam
Vietnam is dressed similarly to his female counterpart and carries a long paddle, but does not have a ponytail.

Wy
Wy wears a tri-point crown on his head, a bandana around his shoulders, an unbuttoned shirt and shorts and carries a large paintbrush.
